sq? spl?

What the hell is sq? sound quality? How about Spl? what are the differences? I'm trying to learn what these things mean so I can have a good system in my truck..... :dunce:

SQ = Sound Quality (how good it sounds) Very subjective to the individual, what's awesome to one person is trite to another.

SPL = Sound Pressure Levels (how loud it is) Can be measured and is represented in an exponential scale of decibels.

More often than not, if someone's system sounds like crap, they claim they built it for SPL. Or if the system just isn't very loud, then it's for SQ. It's alot harder to truly excel in both SQ and SPL without spending lots of money.

If you don't even know what Sq or SPL stand for without asking, I would HIGHLY suggest consulting us and many others before you hand over a single dollar for anything. any stores will over charge, and sell crap all day long if you aren't careful.
Oh, and don't forget SQL - the blend of SQ and SPL coined with the introduction of the JL Audio W7 series.

bamaboy 07-01-2005 01:34 PM

its what my XXX is :) SQL is the bestest

HighRollerII 07-01-2005 03:50 PM

:squint:what have you been hearing? XXX is talked about for its sound quality while getting very loud a.k.a. SQL, MT is Spl only, if thats what your talking about,

on RE's site it says the XXX was built for sonic performance and output, and what did you think xbl^2 was? :drillserg its the same motor the brahma uses but XXX gets louder and sounds just as good

not to be mean but how did u not know that?

cant have RE until u know everything about them! j/k

bamaboy 07-01-2005 06:15 PM

and i wouldnt reccommend a mt for daily, they are comps only, but u could still run them daily, to get really loud and sound decent try the SX, tis what i had before the XXX, and 2 XXX= 3200rms,u need atleast 2400rms to make them get close to their potential(i wouldnt put less than thise on them, i had 1200 on mine first but it wasnt enough, i would reccommend 1800 or so if you know how to set your gains,
i have a Power acoustik a3000db with 2300rms but i have it set to 1900 watts or so
so with that many watts u will deff. need a new alt, atleast 250a or more and maybe another batt

and they dont like sealed boxes that much, what size are u getting? at least try to port them if u can and tune to 30-35hz

HighRollerII 07-01-2005 07:25 PM

the RE, HE, and the ones below the XXX i thought were for SQ...and the XXX was for heavy bass but i guess i was wrong..yea the MT is just insane and is for somebody that just wants like one tone comps...

bamaboy 07-02-2005 09:53 AM

it goes RE-entry level
SE-good mix for good price
SX-pretty good spl/daily sub
XXX-one of the best sql subs out
MT-BEAST
