pics!!!!!!!!!!!! getting that thing into my truck was a *****, and took forever. once i got it in there, and all wired up, i listend to it, really liked it, and decided to leave it in there, unfinished, lol. all i have to do is sand it a bit more, then either wrap the curved faces in some material, or sand it real fine and paint it. i won't be doing either one, however. i'm already planning on downsizing my system and want to build something even smaller.. so i see no point in taking the time to finish the box. |

after i took those pics, i wanted to test out the boxes, to see if they were worth continuing on with.... i liked how they sounded all wired up and plugged in, then said screw it, and never took the box back out of my truck, lol. it still sits in the back of my truck, half way finished (cosmetically). i want to wait till i possibly get a Body lift... if i get one, it'll motivate me to remove the box, and either finish it, or just build a new one. truthfully, i hope to build a new one, something smaller aimed at purely SQ this time. |

haha but seriuosly.. if your gonna downsize.. i say finish it and sell it on here(localy ofcouce(no shipping))... what else would you do with that nice of a box use it as a heavy bird feeder |

Wow thats kinda funny....Durring the summer i built two boxes just like that and every thing is the same as what i did....There sitting in my garage....Funny....Great minds think alike...lol......

how did you bend the wood like that? i'm starting my box for two alpine type R's but haven't made up my mind on the design yet. i have a box from q logic in there now and hate it. looks like your seats fold back nicely and everything.

first, i cut my sides using a template. after i had the curve, i used 1/4" luan for the bent surface. i wanted to get an even 3/4" of material on all sides, so i actually had 3 layers on the bent surface side. i made sure to use plenty of glue in between each layer. after i glue all 3 sides to one another, i quickly put them in place on the box, then used multiple ratcheting straps, and strapped them into place. i screwed a couple of screws in for extra security, then let it all sit for a day or so, and let it all dry nicely. looks like your seats fold back nicely and everything. |

im trying to avoid fiberglass for right now. that open face part of the box is going to be covered by luan. its a bendible wood. once i get that, im going to mount a trim ring (for the sub to mount to) onto the curved area, and cut out the hole for the sub. im then going to create the flush curve around the ring with kitty hair.. then after that.. sand sand sand. once its all smooth, im going to paint it a flat black, with a flat clear over it, so itll match the black plastic in the truck (radio bezel, door trim, etc.) i wrapped some pieces today in material. i had to stop working on it though.. right after i took these pics.. it started to poor, so i couldnt get the box out of the truck without it getting soaked. here's a couple pics to show how it fits in the back. |
