Well, i took out the subs when i was hookin up the nightglow.. and havent had the time or the will to drag that heavy *** box back in the cab (plus it makes a great coffie table.
anyways, i got to thinking.. is there a way to hook it up to my home audio reciever... well the reciever uses rcas so that is good. So, all i need to do is get an ac to dc converter of some sort... so my friend and I were discussing this during class. this is what we came up with. Hook the amp to a car battery.. then charge the battery using a battery charger.

will that work? or is it kinda pointless?

have a better idea?

And you need a remote lead, just tap off of the power wire.

I tried it, but it never worked. Although I didn't use a car battery. And BTW, it wasn't with that amp either.

I wouldn't use the battery because of the hazards of batteries. I realize we use them in everything but a car battery is a somewhat different animal. Just get an ac to dc convertor with a proper power handling capacity and it should work. As far as remote on, I would just have the amp always on. It wouldn't draw power if it weren't playing correct? But then just run rca's to the amp from the reciever for the sound. In theory it should work.

An ac/dc power converter for the home will definately not give enough power, since most supply only a few amps. My computer speaker system's converter is 2.9A, I just checked; and my sub amp in my truck is max of 130A.
You can run the subs off of your home stereo, but wire the subs to 8ohms or whatever the amp is to not damage the amplifier. It probably won't give enough power but it will work. My friend got a decent JVC home av unit at 100ohms per channel at 8ohms x 5.1 and wired up 2 pioneer 12's (cheap ones), and it didn't sound bad, and nothing broke, and he had the setup for about a year or so, so it does work.
The car battery and charger setup would work, but sounds like a bad idea.

There is a way to make it work you need a power supply from a computer, let me know if any1 wants to do it i'll give u detailed instructions.

 

I got two rockford fosgate Punch Z's (12's) in a bandpass box. IT makes for great home enterment low end. Come over and lets watch black hawk down.

 

The Matrix (all 3 of them) sound pretty sweet on my dvd player with a Lighting Audio 10" sub in my room... old setup in the stang, cause I wasn't making much money back then.

I've had it for about 3 years and it's 4ohm. no problem at all... since then I've built a box for a Bessel 0.54 Qtc (no stuffing), upgraded to Monster 11ga. Time-correct wound wire (had to twist/shave some off to get it in the DVD player outputs).

The only problem I have is the sub doesn't have very much excursion (0.1") but I've definitely seen it beyond that...lol. which was accompanied by the voicecoil smacking the backplate!!

I might mod it a little more, the sub sub has had it with me removing it so much, becuase the plastic ring around the outside is popping off and I can hear it during certain songs.

 

black hawk down is awesome to watch in surround sound. Ive got two twelves in a sealed box hooked up to my radio in my room. also a home cerwin vega 10" with built in amp. I love it, shakes the whole house.

 

my dad has a old car stereo hooked up in the garage in my parents house but he has a 12v power suppily for his ham radio that he is running it with... thats the only situation i could see doing something like this in

 

it could definatly work if you wired them right and had enough power, although im not sure how to do that. proof positive though, last year we had 4 15" audiobahns hooked up in my fraternity house and it put out A LOT of sound.

 

This may be possible seeing as power supplies these days push upwards of 500W and the amperage would be more than enough. My only concern about that is this: the wiring harness on a psu only puts out 5v on certain wires, however if you cross certain wires it puts out much much more. you would need to find out which wires to cross to complete the circuit and get the power you would need.

That's definietly a good idea. You could build the psu into the box, or hange it off the back, and a lot of psu's have LEDs in them or are clear for the wonderful world of computer modding to enjoy.

How do they power CD players at Stores? I got a Clarion just sitting here. And I would love to hook it up as a radio and single cd player.

 

When i had my 2-12's i had them hooked up to my 400 watt stereo system, i just took the wires and plugged them into the back as if they were the surround sound speakers.....

But now i have a 1000 watt phillips surround sound.....its great.....Its like in the "italian job" movie...it will make her clothes come off

ive done this many times its easy ...and yes you can use a battery i did nothign every went wrong and if you go to Radioshack or anything of that kind you can buy a converter for car amps they dont cost that much..and it works fins its loud we had 4 10's hooked up and the neighbours called the cops on us cause we were too loud lol and right now i have 2 PG 10's hooked up to my subwoofer out on my jvc home reciever and its killer loud..easy to do and its better then buying a power subwoofer from best buy or something.

 

My roomate and I did this in college, although it didnt work out to well. We built speakers using 2 12" Infinty's and some 4x6s and 6x9s we had lying around and an Memphis amp. We used a pretty good sized converter to power it, but the Memphis just drew to much and it kept blowing fuse after fuse on the converter, and that was before we even tried to play music on it lol.


We then tried to power it off his home amp but it would not put out anywhere near the power we needed. Also, most home theater amps are NOT stable to even a 4 ohm load, so you must wire them in series or however to get the proper load.

All in all, it required way to much time and money for something that wasnt going to sound all that good in the first place.
