Headunit Mounting

i had the my headunit stolen the other day and im going to replace it. The thing is the thief ripped the old one out and I need to figure out how the unit itself is mounted to the truck so I can buy the parts to put a new one in. All I can see now is a hole where it used to be, it has nothing inside.

Any drawings, pictures, etc would be very helpful.

What year truck do you have? Newer years mount onto the bezel, there's really nothing behind it except for the radio track and harnesses.

And thank Larson (r0ng5) for the pix. lol.

Was it a stock one they stole of aftermarket?

I have a stock CD/tape/AM/FM headunit from my truck if you want to buy it.

Wait.. no they didn't. The only problem is that they ripped off the bezel and the little mounting tabs along with it. The bezel still "pops" in so *hopefully* it will turn out all right and stay in without the screws. I just need that metal cage that the radio sits in.

I'd love to buy the stock one if you don't want a whole lot for it. I'm trying to sell the Ranger and don't want to drop any more money than I need to in it. They stole a $1,500 out of it and i'm trying to pay off the new truck so i'm just about broke.

Can anyone show me with a picture how the radio mounts to that metal "cage" and also how that cage mounts to the bezel?

I'm thinking besides a radio thats the only other part I will need.

that metal cage you're talkin about mounts to a dash install kit, which you may have to buy since it sounds like you don't have one anymore. anyway, once you have that, put the metal sleeve in it, and bend the little tabs (on the metal sleeve) down to lock the metal sleeve in. it shouldn't move once you bend down the appropriate tabs. after that, the headunit (assumming its an aftermarket headunit) should slide into that metal sleeve, and catch itself at the end and lock itself in place. when you buy a new headunit, you'll get a metal sleeve with it.

sorry i dont have any pictures.. it's an easy install though, so if you have any questions, there will be lots of guys on here that could probably help ya out

I'm going to use a stock headunit.

I think I only need 3 metal "walls" that will hold the headunit. My new question is how do those metal things attach to the bezel?

If you use a stock radio (Ford) then it has no "walls, cage ect"...the radio has spring tabs that clip to the bezel. Rangers are pretty poor as far as a secure radio housing.
It is so easy for a thief to remove two 7mm screws and steal bezel and radio all.
