Sub Dilemma

Hey guys, So I'm getting a sub to put in my homemade jump-seat enclosure tomorrow, but I'm in a dillema.

It's between the Sony,

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...8XSL104&tp=111

Or, the Kenwood,

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...13W2511&tp=111

Mind you, I'm using a Kenwood 300W/1000W Amp to power whatever sub I'm using.
My main issue is the difference in Freq. Response.
The Sony has 18-2,500 Hz and the Kenwood has 30-1,000 Hz
So, would the Sony hit that much lower?
And the Sensitivity of the Sony is 88 db and the Kenwood is 90 db

Someone help me out?!

you don't think that the Freq. Response on the Kenwood isn't low enough?

or you could buy my 10" Alpine Type R and have a sub that's better than both of those. :)

Seriously though, My Alpine has similar spec's to the Kenwood and it's awesome. I wasn't looking for anything that was going to rattle my neighbors windows. I wanted a balanced sound. I listen to mainly rock. But it would thump pretty good when I wanted to listen to something differnt or my Wife was in the car and made me listen to R&B.

I'll admit that I am no speaker expert but I would think that with the smaller fequncy range the Kenwood would have a tighter sound since it isn't trying to reproduce such a large frequency range.

(I really do want to sell my sub though. I don't have a system in my truck, have the matching Alpine sub to)

The Type-R is a great sub, however, the specs are way off from the amp I'm buying. It's a DVC, and the RMS and max wattage ratings are way off from my amp, so it wouldn't work.

i'm just worried that if I get the kenwood, the response wont be low enough and it won't hit those really deep notes

Between the Sony and the Kenwood, The Sony plays lower notes better, the Kenwood will make better use of the power because its SPL is at 90 vs Sony's 88
The Kenwood uses a smaller box for sealed so you will get more out of a smaller space.

From the looks the Kenwood has more excursion as well It may hit harder but not as deep as the sony.

Personally im sold on Infinity.

Check this one out for the same price and same place http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...081050W&tp=111
It has a 91 SPL gets as low as 25hz

i don't think its that big of a deal...the kenwood will sound better and depended on your amp and box design you prolly not going to be hitting anything lower that 30Hz anyway. Also very few songs play that low of a note. MTX subwoofers don't go that low either...a 15 inch 9500 series is rated a 32 hz but those things pound loud and deep...believe what you want but i would go with kenwood.

From what ive heard with my own ears in my past 9 years the frequency response does help. I do agree the kenwood is a far better choice.

Btw Lower frequencies such as 32hz will seem lower when played louder

what do you mean the freq. response does help?

And, thanks to all of you. It's pretty obvious that all of you agree Kenwood is the better sub, and I will be going with it! I'll let you all know how it comes out in a few days! Thanks!

if a sub can not reproduce the note it will just flutter and make nothing more than noise like air comming out of a baffle. If it was not important why even bother posting its frequency responce.

Also Comparing an 18" MTX to a 10" is like apples to an orange. The surface area of an 18" is a lot larger your putting more power into the 18 you can not compare the two.

I never said it wasn't important. I'm the one worrying about it, haha.
