System Is Finally Complete (56k..probably not, big pics)
3 Attachment(s)
Well it's been about 3 months in the saving and buying process, but I finally got my system to where I'm pretty happy with it...for now... :sgrin:
I had already bought and installed an Alpine 9852, and 2 sets of alpine type s 5x7's, which was a huge improvement over the stock system. Anyway, I finally got around to buying a 12" L7 and a kx600.1 to push it, along with a knukonceptz 4ga wiring kit. Took me and my dad two nights to install it, mainly because he decided he would take the power and ground wires and get "High-Lug" Connectors on them instead of the flimsy ones that came with the kit, which are extremely extremely secure now. That and I had to rip out that stupid cup holder thing across the back wall and put down some carpet in its' place so that I could get the box up snug against it so I wouldn't lose too many clicks. (not like anyone actually wants to ride back there, let alone ride back there long enough to have to set their drink down, lol) The only other problem we ran into was with the grounding point for the amp, couldn't get the seat belt bolt to come out, even after we ran down to my uncles and got the right torx bit, that friggin thing wouldn't budge. So, we said the hell with it and used one of the bolts that hold the seats down instead. Other than that, it went pretty easy, ran the power wire through the hood release grommet through the firewall no problem. So, I guess I'll just post some pictures of what it looks like..(sorry for the poor quality, had to use camera phone due to dad taking digital camera on a fishing trip with him) Attachment 212827 Attachment 212828 Attachment 212829 So, what's everyone's take on this setup? Good, Bad, Somewhere it between? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks for all your help on this guys. :icon16: |

Alpine HU, Apline speakers, Kicker sub/amp... Sounds like a pretty good stup to me. Do you like it??? That's what really matters.
You may want to amp those alpine speakers one day, I'd say go with an alpine amp and another kicker sub/amp combo.... That'd be a kickass, loud ass system. |
I love it, plenty of thump for me. Only thing is, I'm still tweakling the settings on the amp, I mean it sounds good no doubt, but I don't know how much I should be expecting out of it, don't want to push it too hard but still I want to get everything I can out of it without damaging the sub. I don't really know where exactly to set like the gain, Bass boost, and mainly the low pass crossover. Its at 50Hz, the lowest setting right now, but I read somehwere that anywhere between that and 80Hz is the common range, not sure if I should change it or not, I kind of like the way it is now. I agree with what you said though about amping the speakers, they sound pretty good right now, not too much distortion at high levels. But I bet with an amp they'd be really clear.

So have your big plans come to an end? Your gonna have to change your username now :)
Looks good |
Haha, not even close. Don't you worry, once the warm weather comes around i have some more tricks up my sleeve :439:

There is actually a way to determine the correct gain settings with some electronics math, but I don't quite remember it... the lowpass should be set between 80 and 100hz, actually. And if the headunit has crossover settings for the front speakers the highpass should be set between those also, try to match them as best you can. If you do the stage will lift up and may even sit on your dash. after you amp your speakers you should look up CDT audio (quest is a dealer) and check out their tweeter staging systems.

I just went out and set it 80Hz instead of 50Hz where it was at, sounds real good. Especially since I finally took the time to pick up all the loose change adn other stuff in my cup holders that was rattling, lol.
