if i was to fold down my rear jump seat, and put a 10" pioneer sub under in that 6-8" of space. would it be enough room to make it sound good? also would it need to be ported or sealed at that size?

like everyone, i want the sound but i don't wanna sacrifice space. i really liked the one box i saw for the crew colorados. it looked like a sub on a binder. the binder fit under the rear seats and the sub pointed down. however i don't think the binder would fit under a front seat of a ranger.

i measured the height of the sub and the clearance under the seat. the sub is just under 6 1/2" tall. the area under the seat measures 6 1/2"ish at the closest to the door and 8 1/2" at the point closer to the middle of the floor boards.

if this won't work, is there a slim sub out there? i'd hate to have to buy a new sub since this one is still in new condition and there is nothing wrong with it. i had it in my golf and it souded great for the small area of a a dub.

 

ok, i took some measurements and put the sub by itself in the truck under the seat. it fits and there is 1-3" in spots since the seat is on a slat for peoples' legs.


i'm guessing i'd have to make a different box. i took measurements and it would be an irregular shape. kind of a box that has a wedge cut out. the current box i have might work but i'd need to cut out about 6" on the depth from front to back. using this box i have would save some cash. like mentioned both the box and sub are in new condition and i don't wanna buy if i don't have to.

the current enclosure is 11 1/2" Hx 12 1/2 Wx 9" D1 tapered to 11" D2. giving aprox. 1544 cubic inches.

the new one would be 11 1/2" Hx 12 1/2" Wx 3" D1 tapered to 5" D2. giving aprox 1006 cubic inches.

i didn't measure from outside edge to outside edge. i took the mdf into account and measured the inside edges, that is why the cubic inches is aprox.

the sub would be facing down and as of now it's a sealed box. would this work? does loosing 542 cubic inches mean i would have to now port this box? can the back of the sub be touching the rear wall of the enclosure or is clearance an issue?
