Temporary subs

I don't have the tools at home to remove my factory 6 disc cd player to look, all my tools are at work, so does anyone know if it is possible to connect my subwoofers to the factory headunit? I am looking for this to be a temporary solution until I can buy a new deck in the next month or two. My truck is a 2005 ranger 4 door 4.0 4x4 5 spd with the 6 disc cd player. Thanks for the help

Not easily, they don't have outputs for them.

Thank you. That is the disappointing answer I was looking for. I had two 10" subs and alpine amp from my last car but I sold my old headunit. I was hoping I could run it with the factory unit for a few weeks or so. You guys have any suggestions for possible headunits I should look at? I have a large price range to work with

I plan to get one of these: Kenwood DDX616 DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com

Yeah basically the factory head unit for our rangers sucks and doesn't have any inputs. You theoretically could splice into the correct wires into the back and maybe it could work. As far as head units go i have personally always gone with Alpine, they kick ass. I have a somewhat sick setup in my truck same year as yours 05'

Ya I loved my alpine when I had it but it was a 3 year old model, back when they were great systems. (before they moved into the boxstore chains) from what I have been hearing a lot from everyone is kenwood is stepping up and dominating over alpine. I have no real preference, I am looking for something that looks like it belongs in the trucks dash and performs good

I forget the brand but they have dual din units where it pretty much looks stock.. (ie same size as stock unit)

It was on a thread somewhere here, ill try to find it.. someone might chime in also

Your amp should have speaker level inputs, no? just get some quick taps and some speaker wire and hook it up! that's why their there.

old87ranger 03-02-2010 10:29 PM

what tools you need to remove it i used 2 small alen wrenches to remove mine if its that kind

rangerboy101 03-03-2010 06:50 PM

For a headunit I have a Pioneer Avic-F700BT. I love it.

x2

even my mono channel has an input for left and right, i would do exactly like rangOH here said, as a temporary solution only, as your quality will be CRAP

Ya I really hate wiring subs like that. I was hoping for outputs on the headunit so I could at least have bass. Oh well, gonna have to buy a deck sooner than expected. I can't stand the factory stereo

i agree, but like you said, it's temporary, and if you know how to tune your amp properly, there shouldn't be a huge difference... you can cut the high out of the feed, and as for the bass, the bass is there, in the speaker levels, the speakers that you hook up to it just can't use it, so you don't hear it...

a well tuned amp will get the same frequencies out of line level input as a dedicated amp out, but your quality and gain will not be near the same

honestly, i like the stock deck, the only thing i don't like about it, is that you can't wire subs to it...

ranger4.0 03-03-2010 09:57 PM

I agree with you. I was looking for a temporary connection to the deck through RCA cables so I can just swap the decks later and not have to do any extra wiring. It's ok though. I just got a bit of cash by selling some old parts, new deck next week? Only thing now... Which one? Prefer double din touch screen with nav if I can find one for under 500.

woah woah woah...nobody has head of crystal wire? it taps into your factory speakers via speaker wire, but has this rca transformer thing. i dont know much about it..so i may be talkin ****, but my buddy set up his fusion with that, wanting to keep his stock 6 speaker in dash HU. his system sounds amazing by the way...look into that, he got it at the source

there it is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Speak...w/320382689273

ranger4.0 03-06-2010 01:04 PM

Ya all your doing is isolating the lows from your rear speaker signal. Systems set up likethat never sound good. I'm not going to spend money on something like that, may as well put that money toward a deck

there it is Speaker to RCA Line Level Converter Adjustable High/Low : eBay Motors (item 320382689273 end time Mar-07-10 23:52:59 PST)

using your speaker level inputs, and the built in crossfader in the amp, does essentially the same thing... still not going to be as good as something with designated RCA outs

rangerboy101 03-06-2010 01:34 PM

Why not just wait a little while until you can buy a new headunit with RCA's? Why spend money now just to turn around and spend more?
