what amp for jl 12w3v2?

i just bought a jl audio 12w3v2 d2. im going to wire it up to 4 ohms. and the rms is rated at 300 watts. so i was wondering if this ampKenwood amp would work. its rated higher then i need but its a good deal. does anyone know if that could work or recommend another brand that they like?

i really like Kicker amps......they are worth EVERY bit of the cost of them.....

when i redo my box, i might upgrade to a kicker amp....

mr_malina 01-03-2007 01:22 PM

That amp would probably run that sub fine.

the thing about car stereo amps is you truely get what you pay for.......in car stereo amps you really will pay $1 a watt for good equipment...

$1 a watt is too high. But I do agree that USUALLY you get what you pay for.

Rockford fosagate. bUT ALL THESE OPINIONS WILL BE PERSONAL PROUBLY. You want an amp thats as big or bigger for the sub so you wont stress the amp and over heat it. Me, I go with a bigger amp so I know for sure the amps fine.

I under powered my 10W3v2-D2 by 50 watts and it ran all day long with no problems. It was rated at 300 rms, I gave it 250. And I pushed it hard. I recommend giving around 300-400 watts.

Sonic_03 01-03-2007 09:40 PM

Clarion man i have a 1000 watt for sale and WOW DO THEY POUND its runnin an L7 right now..but you DEFF wanna have a bigger amp..

Gearhead61 01-03-2007 09:40 PM

Remember to look at RMS wattage on the amps, whichever you look at. A lot of companies will try to impress you with MAX wattage, which is significantly different than RMS wattage.

I've got a 12W3V3 and I'm using a JL 250/1 amp. Love it.

Sonic_03 01-03-2007 09:52 PM

i looked up my rms.. 1000 at 2 ohms 500 at 4 ohms..

i have that exact amp that i dont use b/c it wont power my new TCs. great amp and worth the money. never failed me and supplied enough power for my kenwood sub. might be for sale if you want it.

Sonic_03 01-03-2007 10:01 PM

clarion amp? model number and a pic!

03bamaGT 01-03-2007 10:04 PM

NO. i was referring to the amp that the post is about. the KAC-7202. sry.

I just bought a W6v2 and am pushing it with a p3001 by rockford fosgate. I'm giving the sub about 350 out of 400 watts and it stil hits hard. As long as your within 50 watts under you should be fine. I will eventually upgrade to get the full power out of the sub.

03bamaGT 01-03-2007 10:07 PM

That is the only reason Legacy, Pryamid, Pyle and a bunch of other companies are still around.

ranger024x4 01-03-2007 10:15 PM

yeah, i couldnt afford the 799.99 price tag for the 1000/1.. my hifonics amp does me well lol...

What i like about them is no matter how you wire them (1, 2, 4 ohm) they always put out what they are rated for...

03bamaGT 01-03-2007 10:15 PM

yes they are good though.

03bamaGT 01-03-2007 10:17 PM

yes hifonics are great...just ordered my 1605D

The RIPS system they use is incredibly useful! It's great because you can change up your speakers or whatever you're powering with the amp without having to change how the amp is wired.

I got some really good deals on my JL amps, I saved about $50-60 for each amp and $75 on my 12W3V3, so it was a no-brainer to go with the 300/4 and the 250/1.
