Factory Pioneer Sound Help - pastfinder

Hi there, I have been told to visit this site, and hopefully pastfinder runs into this post. I have an 06 FX4 Level II, with the Pioneer CD6 amplied with the sub in the console. Noone seems to know how to mount a factory head unit into the truck because they dont see a wiring harness or any info in catalogs on auto electronic manufactures. I would really like to get rid of my double din and get a flip out dvd screen, hopefully someone can help me with my problem.

Can you send a picture of the rear of the stock head unit? I believe it has two plugs, one four-wire plug, and one 20-wire plug.

I have a similar issue. I have an 04 Edge with the 290 watt option. It is a great little setup, but I really miss having an aux input for my iPod.

From what I can see I have the 20 pin plug and the 4 pin plug. The ideal situation would be if I could adapt an aux input from a 2007+ ranger to this head unit, but I figure that is a lost cause. So I guess I have two options:

1. Purchase a 2007 pioneer head unit (big bucks) or..
2. Replace the head unit with an aftermarket. However, I would really like to keep the factory sub setup.

Any ideas? It seems like these 290 watt systems are somewhat popular in the "factory upgrade" world, however, there seems to be very limited information on them.

Correction.

I have a 16 pin plug and a 4 pin plug on the back of the head unit. I have done a bit of searching and comparing and the 16 pin plug is identical to the 4 speakers setup that I had in my 98 Ranger. I have confirmed this with my old aftermarket head unit and wiring harness. Now I just need to get the factory sub hooked up.

I have ran across a wiring harness that looks like it will allow me to put an aftermarket head unit using the factory subs. It is a scosche FDK13B. Has anyone tried this?

I would really like to keep my factory head unit, but I really want an iPod interface more. It is looking like going aftermarket on the head unit will be the best way to accomplish this.
