factory amp location?

Hi, A while back i decided that i should put a cd player in my truck. I found one in my price range but i'm not sure if it would be to hard to install. I took out the factory installed tape player and saw the wiring harness. I used a multimeter to try and see how the speaker wires were hooked up to it. When i did i couldn't get a connection to any speaker. Long story short , I found out that i have some sort of premium sound. And the wiring harness goes to a factory installed amplifier. The cd player has plenty of power and might mess up the speakers or something els if i don't bypass the amp. Does any body know where the factory installed amp is located on a 1997 ford ranger.

Thanks,
caw

Fom the 97 Ranger/Aerostar Service Manual:

"The amplifier is located behind the back trim panel for Ranger Regular Cab and behind the RH quarter trim panel for Ranger Super Cab.

The instrument panel wiring harness is unique for the premium sound system."

No diagram is provided, but it sounds pretty self-explanatory.

I don't have the stats on the amp handy, but I think its either 25 or 55W.

Not sure if its still rated as such, but when the Mach system first came out, it was 230watts, 460 peak.

yeah, that was the Mach 460 system...Visteon no longer makes that one. Now it's either a Mach or a Mach 1000
