Sub-woofer surrounding repair

So i found a tear in the rubber surrounding of my Infinity Perfect a while ago and repaired it. but everything i repair it, it doesnt last. i tried nail polish, electrical tape/nail polish and a plain old inner tube patch. none last for more than a few months.

so does anyone else have any suggestions for this repair? seems i need something that'll seal the hole up like the nail polish did but has to be more flexible and able to withstand sub freezing temps.

and no, i dont have the money for a new sub or to have it re-coned. that is outta the question, unfortantly.

Well, that's what happens when you don't get a warranty... If you did have a warranty and it went out, sorry. I'll talk to Neil Hayden, some bigwig up at Harman Int. and ask him about it...

last time i checked, most companies dont warranty user error: like sticking a screwdriver through the surround, never see it before in my life, but some may

actually the surrounding was rubbing on the back of my seat and wore a hole through then it tore out a little.

someone on another board mentioned using liquid electrical tape, i have some so ill give it a try. if not ill try the silicone. i was a little worried some silicones would eat the butyle rubber...

Its a moot point but every sub warrenty I have ever seen lists surround as not covered so it doesnt matter how it happened.

ya i thought so...

anyway i ended up using liquid electrical tape. well after its initial run after being repaired it seems to hold VERY well. i also redrilled new holes after wood filling the old ones and put a new seal around the box where the sub sits.

sound is incredible, i forgot how good it sounded...now i remember why i bought the Perfect

i hightly recommened liquid electrical tape for rubber butyle surround repairs :)...thanx to another fella on a different forum for this tip!

Yeah, I put a couple layers, 2 or 3, with a spoon to make it look cleaner. It's horrible stuff to get off your fingers. then I spray some underbody coating (the duplicolor sound damping kind, now) on the innerds to keep it sealed. I've only had one box leak and I fixed that.

Silicone isnt bad to use as long as you let it cure before putting your sub in. If Im not mistaken that takes 48hours.

Yeah, when I finally finish my box, I just wanna let it dry over night and wire that thing up first thing in the morning and be able to listen to it. I don't want ot have to wait a cople days. Plus, silicone stinks.
