rockford vs sundown

so, ive been thinking of upgrading my sound system a bit more with the addition of a pair of subs and have narrowed it down to either a pair of rockford fosgate p3d2-10's or a pair of sundown sa8's. i currently have a kenwood deck, 6x8 rockfords up front, and stock rears. itll raise the hairs on the back of my neck with dubstep now but i want it to make me have to catch my breath. i like HARD hitting clean bass. what would you recommend for an amp to power the whole system? thanks in advance for any help

I would say the sa8's.

I'm not sure as far as amps, maybe one of sundowns matching amps.

any reasoning for the sa8's?

i had been considering a hifonics zeus 60.4 + 1k but i havent been able to find many reviews on it.

Most of the audio guys here prefer Sundown. I don't run them since I'm still running the sub/amp combo since I was 16

Im thinking the tens, just because of the displacement factor, they wouldn't have to work as hard as the 8s so bass would be tighter.
for dub step your going to want larger subs with a good sensitivity. this is what pro djs use in clubs that play this type of music, going larger would be your best route.
Larger subs would also match up nicely with your 6x8s.. a single 12" or 15" would do well also. there are some good options out there for you. large higher sensitivity subs like the rockfords you're looking at would be your best bet.

do you have any recommendations for other specific subs that may suit my needs? im not brand loyal by any means. also, id like to still be able to have room for one person in the rear which is why i was thinking smaller subs.
any amp suggestions for the entire system?

I don't care what anyone says. I love my sub/amp combo.

12" Eclipse sub with a 200W Rockford 2 channel amp in a custom built ported box

Running it for almost 7 years, still rattles my windows and sounds great.

i really like your setup! what would the sound difference be between a ported and a sealed box? which would hit harder and feel more powerful?

sorry for all the noob questions. this audio stuff is all new for me.

10s, ported.

Ive got a few original hifonics amps the american ones and am running a new model and so far have been impressed. Especially for the price.

Ive always had a thing for hifonics. Haha

I agree, if you want to have to catch your breath you at a minimum want a 12 but to really catch your breath you want either 2 12s of a 15. If the hairs stand up on the back of your neck now, just wait until you hear a 15 with 1500 watts rms going through it. you will have to chew gum all the time like you are in an airplane!

Alot of it will come down to box tuning too, you can get loud with a taper horn box and a 10 with good power. It's a big box so it's not space friendly. I'm in the middle of building a new set up, I'm going with a pioneer ts-w3002 12" and probly going to do 1600w with a 32hrz slot ported box at 2cubic foot.

I also just put a type r dual 4ohm in my car and that thing is clean as hell and pounds in a pos sealed box.

it seems like 12's are the most popular. would a single 12, say a rockford t2d2-12, hit harder than 2 10" p3's? i like the idea of running a singe sub if i can get the sound im looking for.

on rockford's website they recommend a 1.75-2.25 ft^3 ported box or a 1 ish ft^3 sealed box. would it be unrealistic to think i could fit a 2 cube ported box behind the drivers seat and still have room for a passenger on the other side? does a downfiring sub sound deeper than say a front or rear firing sub?

i still have no clue what do get for an amp. id like to run all 4 speakers and the sub off the same amp if possible. i plan on putting another set of rockford 6x8's out back after the sub. the fronts have really impressed me compared to the kickers i previously had in there. they're 60 rms and that 12" t2 is 1200.

i just realized that i havent made an intro yet and ive been on here for almost a year. lol maybe ill get around to it this week hahaha

you will have to run 2 amps, one for the sub and one for the doors. the tuning alone will be the reason. hooking them up together isnt too bad, a couple distribution blocks for the power and grounds, and 2 sets of rca's. one from the deck, the next from one amp to the next.

as for 2ft cube box, its do able, i have a few designs i have links for, there not ranger specific, but there a start to play with on the size. if i remember right, its a tall box and hits about half way up the back window(standing upright due to passenger space) but fairly narrow. think im gonna widen the box and drop the height down.

down firing will do nothing for sound, however the tuning of your port will, weather it be a slot port or a round port. personally prefer slot ports.
