so basically, ive decided within the couple of weeks or so
i will be purchasing an alpine deck and some type x component speakers off of onlinecarstereo.com
im pretty sure i can install the deck (this is the first system ill have installed)
but what i cant figure out, are component speakers, which is basically the only thing puzzling me.
yes, i used the search button, but i still dont understand how to install them.
i think what is confusing me the most is the separate tweeter and crossover...
is the wiring going to be that much different from a regular pair of speakers?

help or a how to?
or should i just leave that part to the "professionals"?
just tryin to do some of my own work and save some money.

Component speakers come in 3 parts.
1 is the woofer and it goes where the stock speaker is. if it is too deep you can buy spacers or use washers.
2 is the tweeter and it goes up on your dash or on the upper part of your door. it usually takes drilling a hole in your door panel and using some mounting hardware.
3 is the low/high pass filter. it takes the speaker wire from your deck and splits the signals into high for the tweeter and low for the woofer. it best to mount this inside the door panel and not just let it sit. If you let it sit there it will rattle.

The hardest thing to do is working up the courage for mounting the tweeter. best bet is to get a hole saw for a drill to be the appropriate size. make sure you cut for the size of the tweeter and not the grommet that makes everything look pretty.

The low/high pass filter wires up like a regular speaker, then you wire the tweeter and woofer off of that. Its a very simple install.

Remember to measure on the OUTside of the hole saw, otherwise the hole will be too big. Your spec sheet should tell you how big to make the hole for the tweeter. And yes its very simple to install.

 

get the 6 1/2" not the 5 1/4". you will need to make your own 5x7 to 6.5 adapter unless you buy one online. they are easy to make tho, flip stock speaker upside down,trace it out on a 1/4 or 1/2" piece of mdf and cut it out then figure out the mounting hole size for the speaker and center that and cut it out. if you need a pair made let me know i am more than happy make you a set for $30shipped.
