There goes another sub!

Welp.........my other Rockford P1 sub is shot now.......started making noise and kept getting louder. To top it off, I was almost home and my amp stoped working. Im not sure what happened to it, it was working fine, and just quit. Its still hooked to the battery and all.....I thought maybe it went into protect mode, but the light that shows that it is isn't on. Its a lightning audio, and i've had it for about 2 yrs and its been fine. I had just got my new radio in and hooked up a couple days ago, and now this happens. Any ideas on the amp?

It blew both fuses on the amp......what do you think might have happened? I had the new radio in for a couple days before this happened. The volume wasn't turned up when they blew........too hot?( I felt it and it wasn't bad, it was warm, but it wasn't really hot.)

I have had rock fosgate wires for 2.5 years now an they are still good...idno about subs and amps though

about the blown fuses, replace them and try again...if it happens again then idno...get a refund? Where did you place the amp? What gage wire do you have? Check all your wiring again...make sure everything is plugged in correctly

EDIT: wait a minute, I just re-read your original post, you said you had a lightning audio amp correct? And its 2 yrs old correct? I am completely surpised it lasted that long...I've seen those thing blow before for no apparent reason...id say its time for a new amp..i'd go pioneer personally, but there are other good ones out there as well.

Not knocking the stuff but you get what you pay for.

It's in the same class as Audiobahn in my book.

or you can find the people that look over at me at stop lights, thats with both cars windows rolled up btw.

I got the lightning audio amp and 2 12" subs as a package for about 125 bucks new a couple years ago. It was a pretty good entry level package, but its just not much bass now. The 12s I have now dont really hit that deep, and theres not much bass. I want to completely redo my system, including a new box that is bigger.

Rockford used to be good. Then they became the same ol company that reaches for quantity instead of quality.

Rockford punch series amps have worked great for me so far. I owned a p3001 amd now a p6001 and both are awesome amps. I also owned some RF subs and they worked great until I drilled holes into the surrounds. I don't see why anyone would say they are a bad company.

Their amps are still ok. The subs have just become a lesser grade over the past 6 or 7 years.

Ya, I've heard that the old line of RF subs were pretty much top of their game and the subs to have.

I was pleased with my Punch Z's back in the day. RF is still good, just not as good.

the 8" sub i am useing is an older RF punch HE and i think its a great sub for what it is.
i had it running on a RF punch amp but i replaced it with my kenwood because the kenwood amp is better.

I put new fuses in the amp, and it hasn't blown yet. (only turned it on for a minute or so). And found out the lightning audio sub is the one that is bad b/c it sounded terrible, and there was hardly any bass even though they were both working. I patched up my other P1 sub (it seperated at the foam surrounding), so im going to stick it in when the epoxy stuff dries, and see how it goes then. It feels like my system is held together with band aides. I may end up redoing my whole system......I drove to school today without the amp working, and I miss my bass.

yea......originally, I had 2 Rockford p1s, and then the one I just fixed seperated, so I took the other p1 out one and put my old lightning audio subs in, and then messed up one of those b/c of cliping, then put the other p1 back in, and now my other lightning audio sub is messed up......

well, this time, it went into protect mode, and I checked the amp and its barely warm. The subs worked for about 5 minutes before the amp went into protect mode. I dont know if the messed up sub is causing the problem. Im about to change out the sub for a good one, so i'll find out then.

Check your ground(s)??

Everytime I've ever had a protect light on it was a ground, although it could mean many different things.

It goes into protect mode if it overheats or whatever else to protect the amp.

I put my other p1 in that I fixed, and then went for a test drive, and I was out for about 5-10 minutes, and it was just fine, so im thinking the sub had something to do with it (which btw was very screwed up). I'll get a pic of it in a minute.

Here it is....I think this was why it was making a bunch of noise, and blew the fuses on the amp......
