Members; Am having a few questions that have been 'stewing' for many years. Right now I have repaired the stereo that came with the truck when I bought it back in 2003. The CD6 AM/FM radio (4 speakers, 2 dr extended cab) worked great for many years but about 5-6 years ago the 6CD changer went south. Of course the YL2F-18C821-AE CD6 module was way too expensive UNTIL I found one for sale (new unused, never installed, on Fleabay) for 50 bucks in its OEM box and 100% pristine. Since before install, I trolled any and every source, to make sure I had no problems with the replacement of the (historically) defective module. Before its install the 'self-test' of the radio came back with 4 'DTCs' (given the self-test procedures I was able to find). Those 4 DTCs were;

U2003 - CDDJ
U2005 - RICP
U2008 - PHONE
B2406 - CD

The other tests all came back with various other data (Software Data Query);

MAIN - 03_01_08
CDSP - 03_01_0
CDDJ - 00_00_0
CD - 07_05_0
RICP - 00_00_0

Button # 6 (not listed in the .txt file I found, as attached) is a 'Radio Config' query as documented;

Config1 - 1_015
Config2 - 2_000
EQID - 000

NOW, After the replacement of the CD6 module with the new one, the radio/CD6 works GREAT! All 6 slots load/play/switch/eject/shuffle. The radio by all appearances functions as it is supposed to. I am trying to understand the particular DTCs that are still listed when I re-did the radio self-tests listed in the .txt attachment. The B2406 CD DTC went away after a 'clear' command and reset. The remaining ones are;

U2003 - CDDJ
U2005 - RICP
U2008 - PHONE

The rest of the radio test data are the same after replacement of the defective CD6 module. I am attaching the two documents I used to find, document, reset, and replace the module (in/on the radio body) with the new one. The testing/self diagnostic document is the .txt one. The R/R of the replacement module is the .pdf document. The picture one is not of my radio, just showing the rear two connectors I have on mine. The particular radio I have does not match the radio number in that picture, it is just used to show the two connectors on mine.

Now that there is some detailed history, just one more fact should be given to maybe(?) answer why the three DTC's are still present?

This radio is the one that came with the truck. It has TWO connections on the lower right side of the rear of the radio. Only ONE connection is populated, it is the one with the radio/speakers/other connections. The other connector (shown in the picture attached) is NOT populated, and might(?) hold the key to the three remaining DTCs. Does anyone have a more detailed understanding as to why the three DTC's remain, and what that second 'empty' connector is for on the rear of the radio? BTW, there are NO additional connectors within the dash that I could find. If this was the amp/subwoofer/other options connector, that would help. It also could have been a 'dealer' installed option pack, that could also explain why there is no connector within the dash.

Thanks for any input the membership could have!

From what little I found on this, the 3 codes may be showing up because your truck may not be equipped with these options.

U2003 refers to Audio Compact Disc/Disc Jockey (CD/DJ) Is Not Responding Not applicable. Vehicle is not equipped with a CD/DJ player.

U2005 refers to Audio Rear Integrated Control Panel (RICP) Unit Is Not Responding NOTE: U2005 is retrieved if RICP is not present, disconnected or inoperative.

VERIFY if the vehicle is equipped with RICP.

U2008 Cellular Phone Communication Fault. Not applicable. Vehicle is not equipped with a cellular phone.

This reminds me of the old GM code 12 when doing a jumper test at the ALDL connector, Code 12 was always present on every vehicle, Code 12 just meant the vehicle was not running.

This makes me think the radio does not know what options it has, yet it will check for each item during a self test and show a code for what is not present.

If there is no problem your radio should work as designed, there should be no errors on the screen when starting your truck or operating the radio.

These codes should only be present when engaging the manual self test. If this is the case your radio is operating as expected.

:) Hello EaOutlaw! Thanks for the detailed reply. Yes the radio/CD6 is working GREAT. I believe your 100% spot on about the options not installed and only showing because the self-test is looking for but cannot find them, hence showing the DTC codes. Your also spot on about finding information on these self-tests. There are so many 'generic' posts about Ford self test modes, it makes your head spin. I wish there was an available MODEL number self test list/manual. I am sure this information is held close to the Ford people so their service departments can make $ with you bringing the vehicle to their service departments. So, got the CD6 changer piggybacked on the radio module and it is working like new. Thanks for your reply! :)
