patchin up some rot spots
well of course here in wonderful NY rust destroys everything. so in an effort to save my truck, i spend an hour patching up some body rot, nothing big, this is the second of 3 spots i need to tackle. then this summer i'll be doing my hood, gas cover, and tailgate.
this isn't the spot i painted, i forgot to get a before picture, this is the one i still have to paint. but you get the idea.
and Done. you cant see it as obviously from a distance, it isn't really meant to look good. just stop the rusting process.
the underneath however, is a lost cause.
my next project, besides my slave cyl. is to buy a new grille. guess where my dumbass cousin decided to push when i got stuck this winter? (my 4x4 was busted.)
and what color should i paint my new grille once i get it? it'll be a junkyard one. i'm thinking chrome, or black. any opinions?
i'm absolutely loving this weather. it should be about 40F and rainy this time of year here, buts its sunny and warm!!! btw would you believe my phone took those pics???

where can i get a hold of that? i'm not sure how much longer i'll own this truck. leaving for the army in early july, i'll need it for a while wherever i'm stationed (which, if its down south, i'll be buying a used, rot free vehicle), but eventually i'm upgrading to an F150 or 250. love my ranger, but it doesn't have the HD work ethic i need.

POR-15 is a rust converter it is applied directly to the rust all you would have to do is get all of the dirt and lose flaky rust off and you should be ready to apply it.

so just spray some degreaser, wash it off, then maybe blow it off with some shop air and paint? i found out the auto body teacher at my Tech school uses it, i can probly get some for cheap from him...

if u had a brain u would know not to paint right over a bunch of ****ty rust, itll just rust back through. i dont care what kind of paint your using, nothing will stop it. go ahead and use it, paint right over all that rust. but in about 6 months can you please post pics of how its rusting through the por-15? thanks

If you or your friend would have read the directions or anything from POR-15 website you would have know that it is not regular paint it contains chemicals that react with oxidized iron aka rust and convert it to something. This seals the rest of the metal from the air preventing further oxidation. That is why you apply it to rust. If you apply it to a bare metal surface you have to firts apply a few other chemicals that react with the metal to give the por-15 something to bind to.

ya that may be true, but thare are some spots where i didnt sand all the rust off and just in those spots, rust is coming back through. so it might say that, but from my experience i dont like it. chassis saver is much stronger and lasts way longer. ask any experienced body guy

My friend said the same thing to me the other day when I was showing off my fender flares. He was like "dude your leaf spring mounts are about to break off". I wire brushed them to get rid of surface crap and he was right. I'm nervous. I don't want to tackle leaf springs.
