Back To Black.....

I just got done waxing my truck with Turtle Wax ultra gloss, and I used a product called "Back To Black" for bringing my mirrors and black trim back to life. It was a bit faded and there was some white ish stuff on the mirror shells which cleaned up nicely and now looks like new.

A friend told me about it, so I just wanted to pass it on.

Pictures of the refurbishing?

Any before/after?

04blackedge 10-12-2008 12:29 PM

Yeah I've had that for a while, works good for me.

dj wayne 10-12-2008 12:34 PM

Sorry, no before and after picks, but it does look a lot nicer.

If they were faded pretty good the new luster will not last long. Try black shoe polish next time....

Well that would put a glossy finish on them, they are a flat black now. I'll keep an eye on it though. Thanks for the tip.

oldfart 10-12-2008 02:35 PM

Actually not real glossy, I used both on my Jeeps black plastic items.

dave01978 10-12-2008 02:52 PM

alot of times, if you use like 303 aerospace, or the trim treatment i sell, and coat it, it will actually help restore it, and keep it that way, not sure if the back to black works like that or not though

shoe polish works on the mirror shells? because my passenger mirror has like this white crap that looks like its dripping down all over it but its like in the plastic ill have to get a pic of it tomorrow its not noticable unless your up close.. but i wanted to know what would take it out?

wolfman00 11-03-2008 02:09 PM

for mirrors, handles and so forth, i got forever black. (the stuff jeeps typically use) 1 year and the stuff is still black. dont use it on flares though, it didnt take and i ruined two flares, haha.
but it was probably from all the silicone stuff i used like back to black, which works good too

kyle12201 11-03-2008 06:19 PM

nice I'll take some shoe polish to it this weekend when i do my end of the year truck waxing.

roxbury29 12-19-2008 05:06 PM

back to black - works pretty good for fender flares too

hi, tried back to black, also any kind of vinyl cleaner will help with
the exterior plastic bumpers mirrors , around doors and windows..

doesnt leave shiny greasy finish like armor all..

Goodysgotacuda 12-22-2008 02:09 PM

back to black doesn't last long enough for me. And I haven't found a paint to hold a solid black for awhile either. May just have to upgrade to the newer mirror style, and pickup a couple new trim pieces!

korey89 12-22-2008 03:25 PM

You can use black shoe dye too, it is supposed to work very well and last.

Stuff like this, only $3.50 at Walgreens.

ya, the back 2 black never lasts long its about the same as armorall... but if you use it on a new truck like mine it works great... so for old faded plastic, you might wanna check out the shoe polish, lol

dj wayne 12-22-2008 08:03 PM

Back to Black worked okay for me, but now it's winter and my mirrors are covered with snow, so it doesn't matter. I like the shoe polish idea, so I'll probably do that in the spring.

AEA 02-24-2009 03:53 AM

Black WOW works good, but it's pricey!

dj wayne 03-16-2009 02:25 PM

Okay so I tried the shoe polish and it worked so-so, I tried the Black To Black and it also worked but still not that good, but nothing was working as good as I wanted.... so I tried some silicone spray from 3 in 1, and it worked great. Made my mirrors, door handles, and tailgate handle all look like new. I even tried it on the plastic parts of my bumpers and it worked great there too. So this is what I'm using from now on.....

Well the silicone spray worked for about a day, and now the mirrors are back their faded selves again.

i was washing my truck tonight and found my bottle of back to black i was using on the jeep i had until last year . as i was putting it on my flares i was remembering all the trouble i went through to keep the jeep flares black too . the conclusion that i came up with is that i am now going to be painting mine soon .

z3ro 03-17-2009 09:15 PM

I use armorall tire foam on my flares, and its been holding up on them for about 2 weeks now. Not to bad if i do say so myself, and i bought it at a self-car-wash for 2 buck
