I like to use a dark colored glaze with a foam pad medium speed and burn it in and really keep the buffer moving of course. Right now I m using Technicians Choice TEC565/32 Microglaze Swirl remover. It burns in really nice but likes alot of speed. Its pink and works really nice on red. I Use it mostly on my Mustang but have used it on the Ranger its clear coat the Mustang is not. pics in album.

I use Meguairs. i have heavy cut for the bad stuff, and a medium cut for everything else, i think its like diamond glaze. i work the wheel pretty damn fast, but at slower speeds it works too.

Its not too horribly hard. first car I tried it on it took some getting used to but it wade the flat oxidized paint shine like it was fresh out of the paint booth

Honestly, that Fix It Pro pen that billy mays advertised works awesome! I keep it in my truck, and all you do is put it on, wipe off the excess, and let some sun shine on it. its that easy

3M Perfect-It II and all the products in that family of 3M are wonderful. They have a product for any application, fine to coarse. I recommend them with absolute confidence and have used them for years.

As to your earlier thread about using a buffer, its not very hard at all, don't worry about swirling, if you start out slow and always keep it moving, you'll be just fine.

Mothers Scratch remover has worked well for me on random small shallow scratches. I use it by hand when the scratch or scratches do not merit breaking out the dual action Porter-Cable. If you have swirls all over, that is a different situation, but an occasional scratch can be handled easily and quickly. Remember to wax the area when you finish!

I am a fan of the 3M products too. I am currently using them on the Mustang. Of course I am in the process of wet sanding the entire car, then using an orbital buffer with 3M rubbing compound and finishing compound, and then hand waxing. I have got another two good days at least.
