Clay bars remove contaminents from the paint surface. It removes brake dust, tree sap, and fallout. Rub it on the paint with a clay lube and you will be suprised at what you see on the bar. It wont harm paint if you use it right.

Paint Cleaner

Since this old thread is still going.

I would like to mention that the "Step One: Paint Cleaner" By Meguires Seems to be the key to the whole system and it seems as if not a whole lot of people use it or mention it much. Paint cleaner is my favorite part. it cleans oxidation and dirt off of almost anything including rubber trim. it works perfect for the restoring the black trim below the windows. It makes the paint so silky smooth and wet looking. I use it religiously before a wax.

Give the Paint Cleaner a try next time you clay bar and wax I swear by it.

A car clay bar is an essential car detailing tool that targets the common enemy of every car finish: pollution that causes automotive paint contamination. It relentlessly pursues your car from the second it leaves the factory until your car meets its ultimate demise. It's in the air we breathe, it's on the roads we drive, and it attaches to your car's paint, where it bonds and begins a process of oxidation.
