Drying towel/chamois

For those that dry their cars/trucks off after washing, what do you use for drying?

I've gone from terry towels, to chamois, the found The Absorber but didn't like how it grabs. It does suck up a lot of water though...well at least I thought it was a lot until I got a Dehydrator Drying Towel from eShine.ca. Holy crap does this thing ever suck up a lot of water. First time I dried off the Mustang with it, I tried to ring it out twice without it giving up a drop. It's also nice and soft.

FYI...I'm in no way associated with eShine. Just found the site through the Greater Toronto Mustang Club forum a while back. He's got a lotta cool stuff, and interesting articles. I could spend way too much money there.

Back to drying. I bought a Mr Clean AutoDry kit the other day on sale for $13 so gave it a try. I was skeptical but it seemed to work. The truck dried without any spots, even on the glass. I'm not real impresses with the gun. It's awkward. I also don't like the "no bucket" idea. All the dirt accumulates in your mitt. I'm also not sure the filter thing is a real benefit to me. We have really clean lake water here. Spots here tend to come from airborne crap settling on the car while it still has water beading on it. Since the autodry's magic pixy dust is in the soap, I'm thinking of trying a hybrid approach where I use the Mr Clean soap in a bucket either on it's own or along side the gun. I then want to see if my normal unfiltered municipal water will sheet off. Regardless, I'm still an old school detailer. I probably won't use this thing every time, maybe just when I'm in a hurry.

Years ago, a neigbor gave me the California Water Blade. I've never used anything else since. It wipes the water right off your car/truck, so that you don't have to do nearly as much work with a towel or chamois.

Check it out: California 12 Water Blade - Water Blade - CaliforniaCarDusters.com

I use the The Absorber, works good enough for me, cause in ten minutes after I wash it, its usually dirty again anyways....

I've often wondered about those. No scratches, huh?

I used it for quite a while too. Just never liked how it sticks to the surface.

Yeah, just don't use it on anything that's recently been painted as a precaution, and like a towel, make sure the blade is clean before you use it -unlike a towel, its much easier to clean of debris if you drop it.

usually just drive mine down the road at high speeds. Then when i get back home the tires are nice and dry and ready to get some shine. also the turtle wax ICE soap seems to help with drying as well. No spots!

California Water Blade FTW!!!

It's only downside is that it doesn't reach all areas, so towel touch-ups are required.

Leaf blower to get all the water out of the seals, mirrors and cowl. Hit it with the Absorber and then follow up with waffle weave microfiber to get the little drops the Absorber leaves behind.

I used a chamois religiously when drying my vehicles.....nothing like a good old fashioned real deal deer hide chamy..........well until I used the Mr.Clean gun. I seen the commercials and the ads, but was skeptical of it. I had received it as a gift several years ago and love it. I still use a bucket of soapy water along with a brush and rag to wash the tires and inner fenders, but I find the gun and an auto wash brush a good combination.

With not as much free time on my hands these days, NOT having to hand dry my vehicles leaves more time for me to enjoy the simple things in life.

Sounds like he got a version of the script and is retyping it onto here.

I just use a regular bath towel and I only dry the windows/mirrors... never had it leave lint so there's no reason to buy a special towel IMO.... my brother uses the same on all the cars he details including his black 'balt...

Regular bath towels will give you crazy swirls, you probably don't notice it on your orange paint though.
