Fender Flares

I've got an Fx4 with the black plastic fender flares.

Anyone have a good way of cleaning/polishing matte fender flares so they don't look so flat/faded?

I've used Armor All with some success, but I'm wondering if there's something else out there.

Paint them with black paint and a clear coat.

I used some Meguairs stuff on mine... before I put the painted ones on. I can't think of the name at the moment but it really made them shine!

I just checked the bottle... it was Meguiars Gold Class Trim Detailer. I'll look for a pic from when I used it.

the dub guys who own mk2's and 3's (mid 80s til mid 90s) sometimes use shoe polish. i don't know how long this lasts though.

Mothers Back to Black works great on my truck. Made the step bars look brand new.

thats what I used on my lower valance, rear bumper trim.....next, my flares. That stuff is awesome, dries really fast too. I honestely think that all the product that I used on my trim over time has fubar'd them.

i found either tire wax works nice and last long or some engine oil really shines em nice and dirt and **** doesnt stick to it like it would with tire wax

gloss black not flat black i had to redo my rims lol

99offroadrngr May 24, 2011 09:42 AM

flat black > gloss black

if u can't decide, go satin black lol

It will.....well, it makes perfect sense to paint all the trim IMO....that is if your gonna start somewhere on the trim. Next for me is my side mirror trim and door handles.....just cause it doesn't match with all the rest of the freshly painted trim! :) Its up to you though.

I painted my flares and front valence a few weeks back...looks a lot better! I had also previously painted the grille since it was faded and grey also. I should do the back bumper pad also but its been too hot out to mess with it lately.

Wow you did a good job on those flares and valence..what kind of paint did you use?

frosty Aug 26, 2011 06:24 AM

Krylon Fusion Satin Black is supposed to be good for plastic.

WalleyeKing Aug 27, 2011 08:07 PM

Where abouts to you get that from?..does it come in a spray can?

FULLSCALE Aug 27, 2011 08:33 PM

Yep it comes in a spray can. Many places carry it... just go to your local Walmart or similar store!
