the official "I Love Rain-X" thread
I apply this to all my windows and mirrors on my Ranger about 3 times a year, so by now, it has a good coating.
Sure makes a GIGANTIC difference when I drive in the rain. Even the rear windows diffuse the rainwater quickly on my Ranger, which is good considering the back windows on Rangers dont get good airflow on them. Most people only use on windsheilds, but put it on all your windows, your side mirrors, and your headlight/taillights. |
I've used rain-x to good results, except that my windshield always seems to get weird scratches/streaks on it from wiper blades. I even used rain-x blades for awhile to try and get them to go away, but nothing did it.
It happened on my old Honda Del Sol and got to be so bad that I had to replace the windshield. Happened on my last ranger too, and sadly I had to wreck the truck to get rid of the streaks. Rain-X will not go on my new truck. I loved the benefit it gave, but those weird streaks were just too much for me. What kind of rain-x did you get? I used the yellow bottle that you apply yourself using a rag. I also used their wiper blades, like I mentioned, and their rain-x wipes. All had the same effect. |
I had a 66 F100 awhile back, and the whole wiper system was horribly inefficient. I put Rain-X on it and never even had to use the wipers again.
|
i have heard that rain-x eats wiper blades.
plus i have had the streak issue like Kyle. i havnt used that stuff since. |
I have never had any scratch issues.
The chemical compound I think does make your wiper blades wear faster (9 months use rather than 12). I have always used the Bosch wiper blades. |
i gotta do mine soon now that i think about it...works great too... and as far as wipers go, i replace my 3 times a year so no real biggy....
|
I've used it a few times before, and never had any problem with streaks or anything. I dont see how rain x can cause scratches or anything, cause all it does is make it real slick.
|
I got some rainx wax a while ago for a really really good clearance deal. it was like 50cent a bottle, and it works really really well. I've been very happy with it.
|
i used to use rain-x like a champ. i wasn't too hot on the fog-x though. now i just use a glass cleaning towel and Eagle One 20/20 glass cleaner. works just as well if you do it right. bottle lasts a little bit longer. but rain-x is still champ over everything.
|
I had rain-x wiper blades on my truck...they were awesome
I need to get some for my car, now that its the "rainy" season. I have heard that the spray will over time, put grooves into your windshield were the blades go.? |
If you get the streaks, use windex or any window cleaner to remove the rain-x when you wipe it off. Apply it, wait for it to haze over, then spray the glass cleaner all over the window to assist wiping it off with. It still keeps the benefits but looses the streaks even down the road.
|
i used to use it and loved it... but just stopped using it a while ago... for no real reason though... i just ran out one day, and never bothered to buy the stuff again. it worked great though. i never noticed that it shortened the wiper's lifespan.. but that's becuase i replace my wipers every other season anyway.. so the most my wipers stay on is usually 5 or 6 months
|
yeah i put some on my windshield when i got it installed and i had the streaking problem.
i use the bosch icon wiper blades and they kick ass with out rain-x. |
i like rainx. yall talk about it messing up the windshield wipers but i never have to use them. one reason is that we are in texas and it rarely rains(except this week) and the second reason is when the rain hits it it just rolls off. very sweet. i give two thumbs up to rainx

ever used Rain-x windshield washer? I tried last winter and i only took 2 gallons of it from january to... august on my car, wich includes a 3000 miles trip on january, plus and maybe a total of 9000miles since then. And during winters our road are just disgusting, normally I would have uses like 10-12 gallon of normal windshield washer.. just during winter..
On my ranger's windshied I only use the rain-x windshield washer w/o Rain-x, does a good job otherwise my other windows are Rain-xed Just put some Rain-x on my semi-truck, I now can see in my mirrors while driving, I've putted some on my lateral windows so now I can see thru it! I normally re-do it like twice a year and two thumbs up, last long, and if you use the windshield washer also, you'll have to do it maybe once..! |
as for the wiper deal if applied right ya wont need them I can go 5 to 10 MPH and it beads/roll off to where ya dont need them....PLUS the wipers I do have are different than most I have seen mine are more like the squeegee's you use at the gas station forget name but when Rain- X wears off they work AWSOMELY....I myself am a rain x freak and can and have used up to 5 coats I do my differently than instructed
|
i like it
it beads the water up, but doesnt do much else when you hit about 40 it starts to slide off |
i used rain-x for the first time a few weeks ago and now im sold on it
|
