Peanut Butter DOES Work!
 

I consider myself a pretty objective guy who isn't easily fooled at age 55. So when I read about "peanut butter" I just had to laugh.

However, my Bushwacker rail caps, and OEM Mazda mud flaps, take to anything that will dry to a white haze and seemingly never let it go.

I tried IPA alcohol, Dawn dish washing detergent, then I went to Mineral Spirits and Toluene, then Xylene and finally 3M adhesive remover.

The result? The damn white haze remained! Unfreakin' believable! Same old crap since the 1970's.

So, this afternoon, I dug into the pantry and found some very old "crunchy" generic peanut butter.

What the hell! Why not!

I took my 13 year old German Shepherd (Mocha) and headed outside.

You'll note some remnant "damage" to the finish. That was from my efforts with Xylene, Toluene, Alcohol, Mineral Spirits, 3M Adhesive remover, etc. that permanently damaged the finish.

I am definitely keeping my peanut butter on hand for future "white stuff" showing up on my black trim.

I told ya so....It's no joke. My black trim that had tons of similar white shades on it, all looks great now. And this is weeks later and it still looks great !!

I even did the black plastic on the doors next to the widows and door handles and it all came out looking like new. I just used paper towels with the crunchy peanut butter and it worked great !!

Since I've been reading these peanut butter threads, I've gone through multiple jars of peanut butter.

Eh. I prefer the prep and SEM trim paint method myself. I question the long term results...always have. All my trim grossness is from heavy Back to Black application that turns gray over time.

x2...only thing of mothers i use is their wax...meguiars for everything else though...get something that is actually made for car trim

Or you can just eat a peanut butter sammich.
Then go and lick the trim on your truck.

Long-term harm? None other than bugs will like your truck. Peanut oil is not corrosive, unlike a lot of man made cures for things. I'm going to try this on my old 94 ranger when the rains subside here. Same concept as dealers using vegetable oil to detail rubber trim on cars, and that has gone on for years.

If you have a product that removes the white stuff from black trim please let us know.

The chemicals that I used are pretty much found in any type of "cleaner" that you see on the market. Check their MSDS reports and you'll see what I mean.

It's a joke to me but it does work.

The one thing that I failed to mention, is that I used a chamois to remove the peanut butter remnant after rubbing it out.

I don't know if that matters, but I didn't want any peanut butter left on my truck once I was finished.

Never liked peanut butter to be honest with you.

Everytime I clean my truck, I just use this on all the faded black plastic trim...valence, bumper, mud flaps, wheel wells. Works great, and lasts for weeks until I clean the truck again.

Seems that peanut butter is getting popular as a detailing product. I'm using 303 products for my interior and exterior plastics/rubbers.

Awesome! If I didn't have 3 kids in college, I would hope that my 2003 B2300 would look like the "beast" you have shown.

A heat gun works also. And if you think peanut butter works great, go try jelly. It works so much better.

To remove any wax that gets onto my wheel flares or bumper I use a common pencil eraser - same kind of eraser we used in school 50 years ago. I just stick them onto the end of a pencil and go around all the flares where I've gotten some wax on them. I have also found that the same eraser can remove any light scratches on the fender flares.

Just thinking, but if you just used peanut oil you wouldn't have to worry about remove the peanut butter remnant after rubbing it out

Well I guess its like anything you see on Dr.Oz, once he gives it his blessing...the price goes up...
I'll hit the black plastic with the soaked rag I use for the tire shine. If its being a problem I use an old tooth brush with some Permatex hand cleaner. Really safe for just about anything...

Well I have some really bad sun damage to the rear window gasket on the Tacoma. So I figured what the hell and hit it up with some off-brand creamy PB I have in the pantry.

It did alright on it. The damage is pretty bad so I didn't expect a miracle. At least a car sitting behind me in traffic couldn't tell anymore. I also used it on my black plastic mirrors and the door handles. It did REALLY well on both. I didn't take before and after pic tho.

On a side note....my truck is now scratch-and-sniff.
