I plasti dip my wheels and emblems today just wondering if anyone's done this before? And how long it stays on?

People on the subaru forester forum I am on use plastidip all the time.

Most of them have had it on their wheels for over a year. The more coats you use, the longer it will last from the sounds of things.

If it does scratch or chip it is easy to touch up. You should be good for quite a while.

Did you go black or some crazy color?

I've had Plastidip on the good of my truck for just over a year now and it's showing no signs of scratches or peeling so far!

The front of my f250 and emblems are dipped black. Been on there for about a year and made it through subzero winter and hot summer fine.

And recently my ranger was fully dipped navy blue. It was a rushed job so I had some peeling at a couple seems. but for the most part it holds up pretty good.

Really haven't heard many problems with it over on the f150forums. Wheels, badges, bumpers, rockers, and entire trucks have been sprayed. I did my sled two years ago.

My plastidip comes in tomorrow. Gonna start with the scratched up rims and see what happens after that.

I chose the slate gray to match my paint. My rims which had clear coat peel and curb rash look fantastic for about $14.00 in product. It looks so good, I'm looking to see what else I can plastidip on the truck....hey maybe the bike too.

The gray looks nice. I'm thinking of doing mine in that color soon although I just went back to polished aluminum

I'm thinking of doing mine in grey also. Mine are showing signs of wear and tear with the clear being gone. Black would be too dark.

Just wondering if you guys are using any adhesion promoter before spraying the wheels with plastidip.

no need for it therefore no. just make sure to spray it fairly thick and multiple coats or else when you want to peel it off, itll be a nightmare.

I'm not sure there is a real need for it. I did use it since it was about $6.00 a bottle. It was the best wheel cleaner I ever used. I wonder if I can use it on regular wheels?

i plastidipped my front emblem and me rims. so far so good, been about 5 to 6 months since i did it but in the southern california heat it kind melts a bit kind of weird stuff. but overall it looks great, stays on for the most part

I decided I was going to dip my wheels and hub covers. I started with the hub covers. Im using black but after 2 coats its dark grey. is this normal and it just takes several coats to get the full black or what?

I've never done a gray base but directly on my wheels, it does take a bit for the whole wheel to be covered. I usually use close to a full can per wheel when i do it

Did you do any prep work at all? My stock wheels are starting to peel as well, and I want do plastidip them that gray as well until I can afford new rims.

Just clean them and any clear that's lifting off of your wheels you'll want to chip off

My buddy did a half-ass rush job last year on his Tib. He did a few coats but he didn't even bother to wash his salt/oil soaked wheels. It took about 8 months for it to start peeling on the seams. Even 18 months after there where spots that peeled but not to bad considering how quickly he horribly he did it.

Now on his Civic SI he bought last year we popped his wheels off and washed them thoroughly with Dawn and TSP. Put several good coats on it and cleared it with two coats. They look like the day it was done even now. I have thought about dipping my whole truck...but kinda lazy and don't want to buy the kits lol.
