Refinishing Fender Flares
Hey guys. My Flares are super faded, and i rather keep them the original color. But i don't feel like taking them off the truck. So, Short of taping them off like crazy, and going up to Painters Supply and getting a can of Dark Argent.
Is there anything i can do to restore them or bring them back a bit? |
mothers back to black, meguiars trim restorer, or try a little rubbing compound since theyre painted

you can jump to about 7 minutes in to see the results. |
Bring your truck to my house, i will take the flares off and you can paint them.
or i seem to have had good luck with that bumper gray they sell at o'reillys. use the adhesion promoter then the paint. check out the rear window surround on my 97 f-150 on facespace. If you leave the flares on,you can pull them back just a little and slide newspaper behind them |
I might hit you up on that.
Its not that i don't know how to take them off, its that I usually break most of the clips in doing so. |
I've seen very good results from "Bumper/Trim Paint"....for a stock finish.
I personally use Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating (blue can) and love the results. With both options, always use an adhesion promoter and prep spray or wipe...and a tack cloth prior to spraying your final paint/base color. |
Krylon Fusioin is a pretty good paint I like to use.. has worked for me well in the past..
|
x2 on the Krylon Fusion....I painted my flares and bumper valence with it....looks way better and seems to be holding up ok.
|
I've been using the Turtle Wax Trim restore on it. every other week brings it back.
However, the Valence and back bumper plastic will be painted before the winter hits. |
Just go to the Dollar Store and pick up a cheap thing of tire shine. It works better than any of those expensive plastic restoration products and it's a third of the cost.

I just did all my black trim i used rustoleum vinyl spray paint..
Clean them well let dry and do in with light coats if you want high gloss add clear top coat but they'll have a little sheen with out. Al Lafon :smileford: |
