Removing scratches
 

I tired seaching but couldn't find much. My truck is black so it shows every little scratch, whats the best product to get rid of the light scratches and is there anyway to get rid of the deeper ones? I've heard of Meguiers ScratchX or something like that, is that a recommended product?

^^^ That is a good product, I have been fortunate enough not to have to use it, but a few of my buddies say it works pretty well...

^^ Nothing short of a miracle product would take those out. It may help tho...

Or a new paint job lol, i've got to the point now where it just looks better not to keep it clean.

Orbital polisher and Meguiers body scrub. Darn autoparts stores stopped selling it, but I can order direct from Meguiers. The stuff is amazing, and I'd be lost without it. Just work the area in stages, and use lots of Body Scrub.

Mequire's Scratch-X is alright, it is not a permanent solution, and should be waxed over to prolong its effects.

I've used it before on some of my "trail trophies" like what was posted before, and it worked pretty well.

Scratch X is good for small scratches. Ive used it before on my truck. But it wont take out the big ones. Maybe sand it down lightly and put some of the paint on from advance or auto zone and then sand it lightly again, then a second coat of paint and again sanding with a really, really, fine grit of sandpaper ?(then clear)? and then wax. GL!!

By the way, Meguiers Body Scrub has no abrasives, so it's won't damage the clear coat. Clay bars, sandpaper, and commercial glazes have a physical grit in them. Once the grit goes into the clear coat it will haze unless properly buffed. It also reduces the thickness of the paint.

You have to have some sort of abrasive to actually remove scratches, otherwise, your just covering them up. As long as the scratches are on the surface, you should be able to remove them to the point that they are hard to see, if you can even see them. You should have seen my truck when I first got it, it had a ton of surface scratches, and scuffs on it, and now, it looks like a new paint job with the exception of the few little deep scratches, but you dont really see them. You need a buffing compound that removes like 2000-3000 grit scratches.....its one of the last stages in the buffing process. You can do it by hand, it will just take more effort.....thats what I did.

Clay bars don't harm paint, they remove dirt and contaminents from paint! They wont however, remove scatches...

Clay bars have no effect on the paint thickness. If you want to remove light spider webbing, use Menzerna Final Polish II. For deeper scratches, use Menzerna Intensive polish. Or you could use 3m polish for dark colored vehicles. Either works great. As long as the scratches aren't too deep in the clear, then polishing will remove them. Past the clear and you need a repaint. Compounding is much quicker and effective at removing defects, but you can quickly go through the clear.

Can you find scratch x at auto stores or do i have to order it from their website?

If you can put your fingernail in the scratch and it feels like a valley then it will have to be painted. If they are just surface scratches, then polish by machine will more than likely remove the scratches.
