Salt (?) buildup on alloys?
 

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to get some salt crud off the rims on my truck. Since I live in the snowbelt, Snow is not a new substance to the truck, and the road salt has left some sort of residue on the rims. They're just the stocker wheels, but I can see some shine under the stuff. Some of it just can be gently scraped off or it flakes away on its own, but some of it is really stuck. It doesn't come off with regular washing. Has anyone else encountered this, and do y'all know how to get rid of it? thanks.

I'd try mean green or Purple power.

Turtle Wax Wheel Cleaner on a regular basis will clean and eliminate build up.

More then likely it's corrosion under the clear coat. What you're peeling off is the clear coat. The only way to get rid of that, is to strip the clear coat off the wheels and polish them out.

That could be possible. Didn't think of that... Fact, that probably is what the crap is because IT. JUST. STICKS. And it's not too pretty.

Good point, if so, you could always paint them black after sandblasting.
Depending on the amount of corrosion there will be eaten out areas that may need attention.

Yeah I was thinking about maybe painting them black, if they weren't too far off. would plasti-dpping work for this? I'm not familiar with what it entails.
