what is the best thing to use to get out scratches? i off road so much that i have light scratches on just about every part of my truck. Ive tried mcguires and turtle wax with no good results. any help? ps i have a black truck.

well if you can run you finger over the scratch and not feel it then your ok...but if it's through clear coat then there's not much you can do. If it's the first scenario then this is what you do...

1. Wetsand with 1000 grit paper. (let the sandpaper presoak for 10 minutes in water and keep the surface wet while sanding)

2. Wetsand with 2000 grit paper. same as above.

3. Use a clear coat safe cleaner...I use Meguiars.

4. Buff, buff, buff.

5. Use some kind of paint polish...again I use the Meguiars.

6. Buff.

7. Wax...buff.

Tada.

Will wet sanding hurt the clearcoat though?

Yes it can, but you have to be careful not to sand it too long otherwise you will burn the clearcoat! I remember wet sanding and it works good! I didn't have alot of experance on it but I learned to heard way!!lol

GS27 works on shallow scratches (ones you can see, but can't feel). I have used it on black paint with good results.

Dont wet sand unless you have done it before or there is someone teaching you, other wise your looking at a big repainting bill. Its very easy to mess it up.

If these are fine swirl mark scraches...why not use Turtle wax 'Colors' and use Black...to fill in the swirl marks? Thats why they came out with the color series. There is also a product out for black cars/trucks called...'back to black' that is like a black liquid you apply like wax and it does the same thing. It fills in the scratches for a while. If these are like deep scratches like a key dragged along the side...I'm out of ideas.

Actually....the back to black is made by mothers and it's just for plastic I believe.

did you use meguire's x scratch remover? is so then i think that stuff works great. just rememeber that it isn't for the deep stuff. i have used that stuff on three cars, none black though, and was able to get a lot of stuff out

i need to get a LOt of scratches out later today. the trail last night killed me.

well after i wash i'll see. i have some gs27 here, meguires paint cleaner and some rubbing compound so it should be all good. what is good to get scratches outta the plastic?

No. There is another product that looks like thick black ink...that you put all over a black car/truck and it fills in all the fine scratches. BUT I can't remember the name. I saw it at a auto paint store that had some retail suppiles to. And it was called something like Back to Black...Black Again..something like that. Call some auto paint stores and ask them if they carry something like this. It looks like a gallon bottle of thick black ink...and it is temporary.....but I'm told it will make a black vehicle black again for a long time.
