Even if you wash it off?

rangerrunner11 Jul 11, 2012 12:12 PM

purple power will corrode anything that is petroleum based or derived from a petroleum chemical. i.e. rubber, wax etc. thats why it dissolves crayons so good, and scuff marks off the floor. Its also why they say dont spill it on the exterior of a vehicle.

I use purple power to chemically strip the truck every year. Takes it right down to the clear coat. then I just wax her back up again. 190K paint is looking new

kanuck15 Jul 11, 2012 02:10 PM

I use purple power on my diesel. But that is the kind of gunk that requires purple power, about an hour of scrubbing, and a steam pressure washer

06RangerXLT Jul 11, 2012 02:37 PM

really...?

KLC Jul 11, 2012 02:48 PM

I use Zep Citrus 4:1. Works great and is cheap. It can be found at Home Depot.

kanuck15 Jul 11, 2012 02:50 PM

Was that "really" to me?

If so then yeah, first time someone has ever tried to degrease the motor in 267k. Stuff was on there pretty well

rolsmojave3 Jul 11, 2012 08:32 PM

I think I used 5 gallons of purple power on my 7.3 and trans when I tore it down. Still couldn't get the tranny clean, had to use paint stripper aerosol to get that degrease that baby.

kanuck15 Jul 11, 2012 08:47 PM

7.3s have a build up on them thats unreal. But ive never had a drivetrain bolt break or strip on me. they all come right out lol

Simple green works on it now to keep it clean

I have HIDS, and I was gonna use it but I'm worried that it might affect the wiring or something?

99offroadrngr Jul 15, 2012 06:24 PM

You must not drive in the rain then huh?

I live in Oregon, I know what rain is. I was told that the ballasts would get messed up.

no it shouldn't, especially if vehicle is off.

99offroadrngr Jul 15, 2012 09:31 PM

they won't get messed up. My old truck had HID fogs and headlights and i've had water upto my doors. you'll be fine

WildcatRange Jul 18, 2012 10:10 AM

So keep the truck running or turn it off?

rolsmojave3 Jul 18, 2012 11:49 AM

I use it with truck off, even pressure wash with it off. Once a week since October 2007, you do the math, no issues.

99offroadrngr Jul 18, 2012 12:57 PM

I always keep it running and have been told to do it while running by Justin so I'm not changing my habits.

WildcatRange Jul 18, 2012 11:03 PM

I just did it with it running and had a friend keep it at 2g RPM to make sure the fan was clearing the excess water. It did alright, but I think I diluted it a little too much

99offroadrngr Jul 19, 2012 12:35 AM

next time around, if you do it, don't dilute it just spray it on.

Doesn't look like you sprayed enough on. I used half of a bottle on mine and put my hose on jet

i use a coin on the end of the throttle stop on the throttle body, just pinch open the throttle insert coin and let the spring hold it in. usually get right around 2k rpm. perfect for jump starting too

rolsmojave3 Jul 19, 2012 07:13 PM

I also use a rag or sponge to knock the crud off the hoses/cables. Go spray it down again and wipe it down.

Mcleary316 Jul 20, 2012 02:51 AM

K I'll try another round tomorrow.
