Should i pay $185?

Well, my truck is **** paintwise. Its not horrible and you cant really notice when you just look at my truck, but upclose its kinda raunchy. Scratches that can get buffed out, and just not in the best shape. Anyway this place people take ferraris and other nice cars and trucks is around the corner. Its a very professional place, and i had my tint done there. They charge 185 to wash, buff, and wax my truck. Do you think i should do it?

I dont want to buff the whole thing myself cause im not the best at it. I realy think doin this will help my black paint bigtime. Its kinda like a once in a lifetime treat for my truck. I think it would make it look really good. What you think?

185 seems extremely expensive for a wash, buff, and wax.... at the place i get mine buffed and waxed (and all th normal car wash stuff) it costs me $60

is it 185 for just the buff and wax, or someting else... i cant immagine how it could be so much

It's prolly a full detail inside and out. We just had our Tahoe detailed professionally because it was a free thing we got. But in my eyes, it would be worth $185. It is so great, they even polished the engine bay and stuff.

I'm really hoping there was some kind of mistake. If not, im gonna try to pull some stuff to get a discount haha. Most places that charge rediculous amounts of money like that are old and rich. I might be able to talk them into doin it for me cheaper somehow. I really need my truck buffed and waxed though.

That sounds about right for what they charge around here. Actually sounds a little cheaper. I think it also depends on your location and the types of clients they deal with.

Well yeah they deal with really nice clients, so that could also be why the price is high

For just a buff and wax it is $40 here. If they did a whole compleat detail like what they do to used car's to make them look new then it sound's about right.

my friends dad had their Navigator professionally detailed at the beginning of last summer.... it went from looking 4 years old to brand new off the show room floor.... everything was spotless... the under carriage, engine bay, interior, exterior, wheels... everything imaginable.... i think it cost him right around $250....

so... for $185... if i had the money to spare, and if they're doing everything, and it turns out as good as it did for my friend's dad.... i'd say yeah, go for it... then again... since we're heading for winter, i'd wait till after the salt season and do it mid spring.

eh theres a trick to buffing and i dont know it. I buffed my POS car, and ended up with areas of no paint. it wasnt too cool tho it came out really nice. I have really no experience buffing anything, so i wouldnt buff my truck unless some with alot of experience was there to guide me along.

This is an old *** thread but buffing is real easy. Go easy with the pressure so you don't take the clear off. You should also use a sealer after removing everything. Then put the wax on it.

Thats what i was going to say...

With black paint you need to have someone color sand 1 layer of clear coat off to get the swirls and most of the scratches off....then buff it to a great shine and then wax her to keep the shine on....

Buffing it wont get the scratches out, you need to take a layer of clear off.....

what if it's a clearcoat-basecoat? I'm trying to use some Nu Finish scratch remover junk and..... it's not really working.

So far I've done the pass fender (really cold outside) and today I'm working on the hood. I did 2 coats of scratch remover and 2 coats of Megiuar's Gold Class Wax and there is still water marks!

Any suggestions? [/thread jack]

Wax isn't going to do any good removing stuff on the paint like scratches and water spots. I used Evercoat Machine glaze, it has a fine grit in it that will remove surface scratches and scuffs and oxidation. It is meant to be used as the final stage of buffing after you wet sand paint. My truck had heavy oxidation, and alot of surface scratches.......I put a good bit of pressure on the rag (not too much though) to help remove all that stuff quicker. Then I went back with Meguires paint cleaner to remove the swirl marks and stuff left by the machine glaze, and the paint came out looking almost like brand new.
In this pic, you can see up in the top left corner the area I started with, and the condition of the paint surrounding it. The bottle on the hood isn't the stuff I started with, it was the final stage.

If your clear coat is messed up, theres no saving it. I had a 1990 corsica that sat in the sun for all of its life and the clear coat was shot. I tried everything including buffing and waxing. Nothing helped.

Just something to think about before you go.
