07 Ranger PCV Cap/Retainer Part Number

My first attempt at replacing the PCV valve on my 2007 XLT, I was stuck at the step removing the plastic retaining ring and cracked the plastic when prying under the ring. I'm looking for the part number for this plastic cap because I plan to fully break it off during round 2 of this replacement. I already have the new PCV valve Motorcraft EV-274.

I've been searching several forums for a few days without any luck finding a place to order it. My local Ford dealers haven't given me the time of day so I'm guessing they don't really care about selling a $15 part.

As a side note, is there an easier way to remove the ring? I've tried inserting blades into the side tabs while pulling and prying from the bottom. The factory service manual simply says "Gently pry the cap off the 2 tabs" which is of little help.

I believe the Ford P/N for the PCV retainer ring is 6A892 or 6A892B. And I think the rubber grommet/o-ring is 6A892A.
You can check here: http://www.fordparts.com/Default.aspx?gnav=nav:home

Unfortunately I can't help with an easier way of removing the ring because I haven't done it on my 2003 yet.
But I've got my PCV valve ready to go, just dreading actually doing it.

Thank you, 6A892B is the retaining cap and 6A892A is the o-ring. Ordered from fordparts and I'll probably crack the old one off after cutting a line with a Dremel.

I replaced the PCV valve on my 2003 about two weeks ago and sure enough I cracked the retainer ring. They just get brittle over time. I'd say for all future searches, if you are deciding to replace the PCV valve on this 2.3L Duratec engine, just go ahead and order a new retainer ring. The chance of the old one cracking is pretty high.

Oh, and something I haven't seen anywhere; the retainer ring is vaguely keyed to only fit one way. The two holes in the ring are not directly across from one another. They are slightly closer together on one side than on the other side.

old thread I know but in case someones else finds this in a search... Before trying to remove the PCV retainer clip I pulled the crankcase ventilation cover (aka oil separator), and then played with the PCV on the bench. I was also having trouble with the clip but a quick blast from my hot air gun and drop of light oil let me ease the thing off no problem. (Don't overheat or it may deform.) ARRG... the replacement valve I ordered claims "exact fit" but is actually too tall... you can't re-clip the retainer ring on the tabs. The bad part was Standard Motor Products V396 PCV Valve ordered through Amazon. I should have read the reviews since someone else reported this problem. Waiting now on different product to ship.

Ah, nice tip/trick on removing the PCV retainer ring.

That was me that left that review on Amazon. I ended up just getting one from Ford. It fit perfectly.

Same here Soledad.... the motorcraft part from Ford plus O ring showed up 18 hrs after ordering. The extra 15 bucks or so in cost was super cheap compared to the days of delay and four hours of time added to the job... most of that I spent trying to "Shorten" the crap part in my woodshop, hours I felt well spent to shorten delay on the job overall. But no joy and the dealer parts counter saved the day after all. On the other hand, I'm only just getting into this, but I've been happy with other after market parts from Amazon/Napa/Advanced.
