2.3 Crank Position Sensor

I hope this is an easy question. Do I need to pull off the crank pulley/harmonic balancer to change my crank position sensor, or can I sneak it off and on? Thanks

Oh yes, this is a 1995 2.3

RonD 07-16-2018 12:56 PM

1995 2.3l has the newer CKP sensor, first year for it, so it can be changed without too much work

It is located in a hole in the engines front cover behind crank pulley, at about 10:00 facing the front of the engine, so passenger side of pulley
It has 1 bolt holding it down
Remove the bolt and pull out the CKP sensor

These rarely fail, but when they do you get a No Start

CKP sensor looks like this: https://img.go-parts.com/catalog/bra...ll/0DC29E1.jpg

Do you k now what size the allen wrench is? I am so close to bringing this back to life I can taste it.

RonD 07-16-2018 10:07 PM

No, I don't know the size

Is it a hex or torx?
Ford likes torx bolts, star hole vs hex

Not sure if it is torx or hex. I'll try to get a look, or check with the local Ford shop. They have been receptive.
