I'm just curious, what year did Ford switch from the 2.4 OHC to the DOHC and what were the performance gains?

 

They didnt put a 2.4 in a ranger , i think you mean either the 2.3 or 2.5 but the DOHC duratec 2.3 was used in some 01's and then i think in 02 but maybe 03 they where the only 4cyl put in rangers!

I found out after asking the question that they started installing them in 2001. I'm getting ready to buy a 1999 with 211,000 with the 2.3 OHV and I was wondering if I should replace it with the 16 Valve DOHC.

 

98-01.5 got the 2.5 sohc lima engine. older than 98 got the 2.3.
01.5 switched to the duratec 2.3 dohc engine. lots more power and better milage i'm told.

that 99 should have the 2.5 stock. Not really worth switching i would say....lots of work. better to just buy it like you want it....

 

Thanks for the info Grant. I actually decided not to buy the 99 Ranger because the guy on e-Bay got a little flaky. He was slow to answer my questions and he didn't act too interested in selling the truck.
I'm going to wait and get a 2.3 DOHC engine. I hope I can find one soon, because this 3.0 of mine is drinkin the gas and it has no power. If anyone would like to take a look at the truck, it's probably still listed on e-Bay. The item # is 3004396227163. I'd like to know what you guys think.
