Icon13 Fuel Filter Lines with orange/black color

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger with a 2.3L DOHC Engine. I want to change the fuel filter, and need info on how to release the two smaller lines. They are black with orange color. I have seen theb black with white, and the white part was clips to be removed. Does anyone know if the orange part is some kind of clip as well?

Ford fuel line and A/C release tools are available at any auto parts store. There are several different designs but they all do the same thing. The cheapest are probably at Harbor Freight Tools for about $5. You shouldn't have to pay over $20.

Thanks,

Found out that I didn't need a tool at all. Just push in and depress the tab.

Yup. It depends on the connector style. Ford made a midyear design change in 2002MY so there are two different fuel filter arrangements.

Those newer push-button connectors are really sweet, much better than the old springlock couplers. Ford gets things right sometimes.

yea its not a newer thing...my 03 has it too. I figured I had to use the spring coupling tools too, but found out after ten seconds of looking at the filter area that there was simply no way.

You all must be talking about something else, then. I'm talking about the new black couplers with green push button.
