Hello everyone!
Quick back story. My first truck was a '73 Ford Currier. It was purchased from an Alaska Highway equipment auction in 1989. I was a kid and so all I did was put a stereo in her and drove her like she was a monster truck. I ended up blowing the motor and sold her to a gear head down the street. He put in a 2.3 Turbo engine from a totaled SVO mustang, I think it was an 85 mustang.
I always wanted to do something like that with a small truck. I had a chance to get a '92 Ranger, 2.3, 5 speed manual, regular cab 4x2 for a good deal, so I bought it. Now I am thinking is a good time to put the 2.3 Turbo into my little lady.
I am a shady tree mechanic (as my mom called me). I have pulled the 240 and swapped a 351 into my 67 F100 (we call her Old Blue) But that was super easy because there was so much room and it is a basic, carb set up.
I got my account here in hopes to get as much feed back as possible on my idea. I don't mind criticism on my choice , just understand it is a project that I think will be fun for me as it completes a childish dream.
So couple of questions to kick it off.
1. Will I have to mod the engine mounts?
2. Best place to find 2.3 SVO style turbo block?
3. Can the current 5 speed and 7.5 read handle the engine?
As I just got the Ranger and all I know is it has the 8 spark plugs - Meaning I am not sure the exact engine model that is in it but I do know it is factory with 108K on it.
My goal? To have a '92 Ranger with a turbo that when my son takes the '67 out for a drive I can "Keep Up".....
Looking forward to all the comments
Cheers
