2010 Ranger temp guage

So I am having an issue where the temp gauge will work normally for a bit and jump right to cold. When this happens I also lose A/C.

I have already replaced the thermostat and still have the issue.

Any idea what could be causing this?

The Ranger 2.3l DOHC Duratec engine didn't use an ECT(engine coolant temp) sensor, it uses a CHT(cylinder head Temp) sensor.

This is what tells the computer the engine temp, computer then sets the dash gauge for that temp.

I would check its connection and possibly replace that sensor.

Have a look here for where it is: Ford ranger Ford: Where is the coolant temperature sensor located

Losing the AC would happen if computer thought engine was overheating or didn't know the temp

And that is what it was. Thank you so much for the help.

For anyone needing to change out the CHT you will need a 19mm/ 3/4 deep socket to remove the sensor.

I found that out the hard way.

I'm Having a hard time finding a Socket that will go over and be long enough to work over the connector.. Any Specific brand? "
"EDIT -- found an older Craftsman 3/4 that fit over connector"EDIT
Also,, Thanks for this POST!!! Really appreciated!!
- Engine Light on Solid,
- Sporadic/Intermittent Temp gauge dropping off to left with no readings (Sometimes, it works fine, RPM's boost a bit, Temp gauge stops working (Goes immediately to left, AC stops)
- AC Not working when Temp Gauge drops
- Also noticed this happened once when a Bump was hit while driving
- Car Bucking *thought it might be a Transmission issue for a Bit.

Tks..
