Looking to buy 03 Ranger with 87K
Hey yall,
Its my first post, and I am looking for some information regarding the 2.3 Ranger I4. I found a listing online, that featured a ford with 87k on it, which seems pretty good to be, for 5500. Its a 5 speed, with steel wheels, nothing special (it seems like that.)
I am wondering if there is anyway to identify the mileage of the ranger with out using the odometer? Going from experience, my fathers sway brushing went out at about 150K on his F150, is that relative to a ranger?
I plan on going to stop by the dealer to see this truck in person, so I am trying to compile a list of items to inspect before (if I do) make the purchase.
Here is what I got so far:
anything else?
My car gets 22 mpg (highway), so I am pretty sure this thing can out perform it mpg wise, or get close to it.
are there any known problems with this truck as well? My father had a 90 ranger that lasted 3 months....and my buddy put 3 engines in his. the next best option is the tacoma (being a ford family, i wanna stay ford haha exceot my car is a chevy).
insurance aint bad on these machines either.
thanks yall!

Here is what I got so far:
- brushing
- belt
- exhaust hinges
- tire wear
- smoke
- clean engine
- oil level
- spark plug(hopefully they will pull one)
- A/c
anything else?

My 04 Ranger 5-Speed has 291k miles on it. Runs like it drove out of the Ford factory. I did the sway bar to frame bushings last month. Last year I did the struts, sway bar linkage, and ball joints. All easy, all normal wear.
Just do some bounce tests on it to test the struts. Check for rust on the wheel wells, especially on the bed. I had to redo mine this past winter, and the bed. If it has a drop in liner pull the liner out to see how bad the rust is. As long as your interior is clean and the motor is clean and doesn't run like **** you should be good. The Ranger is great on gas, I been averaging 29-32 MPG, LOL. Well I coast down hills. Also check the rear and front pinion seals for leaks, mines been leaking for years but what ever. The differential cover may leak too.
