Any ideas for an aftermarket exhaust?
looking for some kind of muffler for my 2.3l but most of them just sound like crap. I've seen people do muffler deletes all the time and i like how little pipe is involved with those but i hear its pretty bad for the engine. is this true? then i started thinking if i left the stock muffler on but dumped it or did a side dump if that would change the sound at all. seems like it would because theres less pipe going on. but if neither of these work, let me know what you like on a 2.3l cause right now mine sounds like a tin can. any advice would awesome!

I don't think you're really going to find a nice "throaty" exhaust note on a 2.3L. Have you tried the simple mod of removing the air baffle and muffler from the intake? I did this during lunch at work and it made the stock note sound a little better. At least I like it lol

ok i'll definitely look at those. we took my exhaust off after the cat and it sounded TERRIBLE at speed. at idle it sounded really good, kinda like a tractor almost haha

A four cylinder Ranger is hard to make sound good...
Mine has no exhaust on it at the moment from the catback and it sounds like a yota at idle.
A 2.5 inch exhaust on a four cylinder would make it loud and deep, but it'll be more along the lines of sounding like a tuner car. Maybe you can try a bullet styled muffler, like a Dynomax Bullet routed to the passenger side before the rear wheel?

I was forced to sawzall it off.
I look forward to getting a little more bottom end back.
I'm looking into this system from Dynomax.

Looks good. It's about the biggest piping diameter I'd wanna go, not to mention the muffler that comes with it is stainless, so it helps me out out here in the salt belt.
Good luck with everything!

Here is a 2.25 inlet/outlet Dynomax Bullet styled muffler for reference.
This is probably more along the lines of the piping diameter that'd be suitable for a 2.3.

Yessir! Bullet Styled Muffler. Pretty much a glasspack design.
It'll give you the "rumble" you are looking for, but once again, that 2.3 is hard to make sound like that, regardless of muffler choice.
This muffler would also allow you to save some space as opposed to a conventional muffler if you really wanted to design a neatly installed, side-exit exhaust.
Just some ideas.
