Welcome to the forum
You have a 2.3l Lima engine, also called a pinto engine, it is a Single Overhead Cam, SOHC used in Rangers from 1983 to 1997 You are posting in the 2.3l DOHC Duratec forum, just FYI, these were used in 2002-2012 Rangers, completely different engine I would check fuel pressure at the engine, how does it run on the highway? Does it seem to lack power at higher speeds/RPMs, like its running out of gas? Run a can of Seafoam or similar injector cleaner in the gas tank, dirty injector tips can cause idle issue Replace ECT sensor, this is a two wire Sensor used only by the computer to tell it engine coolant temp(ECT) if this is reporting the wrong temperature then engine can stall at idle, cold or warm Check or replace PCV Valve, it is a controlled vacuum leak, so can cause idle issues In general any vacuum leak will cause idle issues If you have an EGR Valve then it could be leaking exhaust into the intake at idle, EGR valve only opens when engine is under a load, to cool the cylinders, if exhaust gases get in at idle engine will run rough and stall. |
Truck runs great on the road and seems to have plenty of power just stalls out when I come to a stop or even just push the clutch in the coolant temperature is not working it shows no reading on my cluster would that be affecting idle?

No on the dash temp gauge, it uses a temp SENDER, and it must be disconnected if needle doesn't move at all.
In the earlier 2.3l engines the oil pressure and temp SENDERS were both on the drivers side of the block at the rear Drawing here: http://repairguide.autozone.com/znet...5280077d27.jpg The wire in the temp SENDER is the GROUND for the dash gauge, so you can test the wire and gauge by grounding this wire to the engine or ?? Turn on the key and the temp gauge should go to HOT if this wire is grounded, if so wire and gauge are OK, replace SENDER if it was plugged in At auto parts stores you have to stress SENDER, they will give you a SENSOR first time out, and it won't work, so..............spell it, S E N D E R please 1995 should still use 1 wire SENDER Sensors were always 2 wire |
Ok thanks man I will check it but just because the sender is out that shouldn't be affecting my idle should it shouldn't replaced the ECT sending as well?

Nevermind I see where you told me that already will replace a these parts and get back with you thanks again

Maybe check the egr system? If the valve stick open it could have a rough idle...
