RPM between shifts

2003 2.3 the rpm drops slow between shifts, sitting still in neutral and reving the motor, the rpm doesnt drop quickly. Where should I start looking.

why is it an issue?? is it sticking constantly or does it stop at a certain point for a second then reach normal again?? idle im assuming is around 750 - 900 rpm on the truck.. and you rev it and exactly what happens?? where does it stop at and how long does it sit at these spots??

Sounds like the IAC is dirty.

need a fix

Its an issue for me because I dont like the way it shifts, too much rpm between shifts. It will drop down to 800 rpm but it takes 15 seconds to do it. That aint right. When I start it in the morning, it runs at 1500 rpm and takes about a minute and a half to drop down to 800.

Idle Air Control valve. It's what controls the engine's idle. They get dirty from the PCV system. Just take the intake tube off and spray the throttle body down with intake cleaner and spray it inside the IAC ports.

improved

I took the IAC off and cleaned it thoroughly, plus the ports in the intake. Helped quite a bit, rpm drops much faster. Now to move on to the pcv valve.

97ranger xlt 09-20-2008 05:17 AM

the pcv will effect the idle , and not throw a code.

heads up...PCV valve on 2.3's calls for a 60k change. How many miles on your truck??
