2011 2.3L with idle and other issues

I have a new 2011 ranger 2.3 auto with 5400 miles on it and been having some issues. First, what happened today, I started it up and the truck idled at 400 rpm constant. While it was doing this it was shaking pretty good. Idle wouldn't change so I shut the a/c off thinking that might help. So the idle went up to 450 rpm. Still shook as bad. So I reved it up once. It then settled at 2100 rpm and wouldn't lower at all for a minute, which then it lowered to 1800 rpm until I put it into gear. (which was a min ot two later since I had to move my other car out of the way). Dropped it into gear, and it went to its normal self idle wise. Pulled out onto the road, and before it went into 2nd gear, heard two distinct thumps from the rear, sounded like it was center of the truck. Then it drove fine after that. Doesn't help it has been over 100 degrees for a week, and I havent driven the truck in three days, but that shouldn't matter.

Prior to this, most of the time when I leave work when I start it up it will idle at or above 2000 rpm until I put into gear, where it drops down where it should be. This is my first 4 cyl so I am clueless about these. My 5.4 F150 would idle at 750 rpm after it warmed up, but thats a different truck. Is this normal for the 2.3 to idle so high after start up?

Didnt know if this is a prob that the 2.3L have. I am dropping it off at the dealer monday after work so I guess I will find more out after that.

What do you think?
*My defintion to where it should be is below 1000 rpm fyi

Its looking like it is an intermittent freak thing this truck will do when it is hot outside. Although the dealer told me they are going to have to look into the rear end closer because of the thumps. They couldnt figure out why the trucks' idle would act like that, but they cant get it to do it again either. I'm thinking I need to go back to an F150 soon lol

Does anyone else with the 2.3L have issues with the idle when it gets really hot outside?

Where did I say it was a "ranger" thing? I said "this" truck as being "my" truck. And I will go around saying "this" truck because it is my truck. I am not talking about your ranger or anyone elses included with mine on this issue being broad across all rangers.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem with their 2.3L.

I was thinking the IAC, but I'm not going to tell the dealer to start swapping parts just yet. Going to see what they come up with this week.

Sorry about the delay: The dealer told me that nothing is wrong with the truck. They had it for about a week and came up with nothing. Oh well, I guess I will just deal with it for now. If it gets worse, I guess they will have another truck to try and sell lol. Not really, they would just actually have to fix it then! Thanks for the input

I also have a 2011 Ranger with a 2.3l and 5 speed with the same problem. Sometimes when I come to a light the idle will go down to about 400rpm. This causes the truck to shutter as if it is going to stall but it doesn't. I find it very irritating. This is a new truck with 15,000 miles on it.

I plan on taking it to the dealership but my friends tell me if it doesn't cause the engine light to come on they will do nothing. Anyone have any ideas?

My 2011 XL 5spd has 4,500 miles so far.It has no issues yet.The 2.3 isn't exclusive to the 2011.
Anyone else had this issue?

If you have the time, I would take it to the dealer myself. The least they will do, like they did to me was say "nothings wrong that we found, but we have it on record so if you bring it back again for the same problem then we will have documents on it and might be able to do something about it."

The service manager told me that it the TBS, I think is what he called it, but its prob going bad. He said that when they do detect a prob through the check engine light and codes then it would make it easier for Ford to cover it under the warranty. I guess it makes it easier on their part.

Personally, I think it was a load of crap but I'm going with it right now. My truck is still acting up, so I will prob drop it off again in a month just to inconvience them. And I am the kind of person to pester them until something is done to correct the problem.

Yeah, my truck just started to act up while its in gear the other day, instead of just in park, sounded like somebody with a stuttering problem going down the driveway lol The idle kept jumping from 400 to 1100. I would just pester the dealer like I am doing, eventually they will get tired of seeing me and probably just fix it. Or they will finally find the problem. Doesnt hurt to take it down there if you know what I mean...
