I installed a 18" Permacool fan in my 06 Ranger. Summit has them for a little over $200. Went with the Permacool because I felt like it should fit the factory shroud, it doesn't draw a ton of amps and it moves a plenty of air for a 4 cyl. probably a little over kill! . It did and allowed me to keep the factory AC fan in place. I had to bend the mounting feet a little. Drill four holes in the factory shroud and bolted it in with about 3/8" clearance to the AC fan. Don't remember the controller I used but it was adjustable and the probe goes inside the radiator hose. Been in about 1.5 years and have had no trouble with it. Matter of fact I have not heard it running but maybe twice. May have come on more but I doubt it, I live in the sticks so not much stop n go. The install was real easy. Working 7 straight 12 hour nights so give me a day or two and I will try and get you more information when I have more time.

If memory serves me well the shroud removes with the AC condensor fan in place, after you unplug the wiring harness. I laid it flat on the concrete of our carport. Then used a small piece of plyboard to set my clearance between the A.C. condensor fan and the Perma-Cool fan for drilling the mounting holes. I think it took a total of two tries to get the feet bent just right, I might have got lucky there, lol! On the fan controller, for the life of me I can't remember who made it. But I do remember it is adjustable from 160-240 with a wet probe. You don't need a super heavy duty controller for a Perma-Cool fan. The 18" only draws a little over 10 amps and has a pretty low start up spike. Perma-Cool, Hayden or any of a half dozen other controllers would work.

This is what 6 straight nights will get you!!!! Thought I had uploaded 4-pictures of the fan and controller and have nothing, lol!

That is much better now. First pic to the left is the fan actually mounted. Don't laugh at my yellow tape as it was all I had at the time. Remember I live in the sticks.
Second pic is the controller and hot wire with fuse.
Third pic is one of the mounting bolts going through the shroud.
Fourth pic is the wet probe going into the radiator hose on the passenger side.

Now you can use a dry probe that goes into the fins of the radiator or the wet probe like I did, your choice. I just prefer the temperature sensor reads the coolant rather than a metal fin. You do run the risk of having to reinstall the wet probe if you have a leak on the first try. I used one on a 2000 F150 for 4 years with no problems just for your information but it did weep on the first install, never again after redoing it. On the Ranger it was fine the first time. When I bought my Perma-Cool they had just gone back into business and I paid over $250 for the fan. Summit has a better price now and you may even find it at a lower price somewhere else. You can go to Ebay and get the controller just make sure it is a major brand. I used a half inch thick small square of plywood to set my clearance between the two fans. Ended up at around 3/8" after bolting it down. I wanted it mounted in the shroud to pull accross the whole radiator plus the factory fan for the A.C. and back up in the remote case of a failure. My install wasn't cheap but I feel you get what you pay for! I installed a factory Ford Windstar twin fan in my F150 with three relays and ran it for well over four years with no issues.

2 stupid questions. do you have ac? and have you checked to see if your truck doesnt already have one?

most duratecs that came with ac have the mechanical fan and an electric helper fan thats wired to come on when the ac pump kicks on, which on rangers is almost all hvac positions except just the top vent. my ranger had both, i pulled the mechanical fan and left the efan how it was because im too cheap to buy a tuner to program it. the radiators are huge on these truck to accommodate the 4.0 so ive never had a problem with the motor getting hot, even when stuck in traffic on the 405 in summer
