HELP! 2.5L 5 spd Squeeky U-joint?!???
Based on some other threads, I convinced myself I need new u-joints...100K+ miles, developed the squeak, squeak, squeak proportional to fwd speed, not always consistent but usually dies out above 2nd gear. Anyway, bought the joints pulled the shaft and discovered the transmission end hub has a steel ring attached via vulcanized rubber to the inner hub, except the rubber is mostly dry rotted away and 3/4 of the ring is loose on the hub....I think this could be my squeak...the front u-joint looked fantastic when I pulled it out, not dry, still rolls smooth, no play, and not real stiff, the rear seems the same but I have not pulled it out yet. The big question is what the heck do I do with this ring? remove, replace, clean and re-attach with RTV? What do you call it and where can I find it....LOL?

It is a vibration damper and usually only found on 4cly engine Rangers/Mazdas.
