1990 4x4 with a4ld whine

I just purchased this truck a month ago. When the truck is in park or neutral there is no noise. I put it into reverse or any forward gear and creeping or sitting still with my foot on the brake it whines. As soon as I get over 10 or so the noise is gone. I just replaced the radiator with built in trans cooler so I know there's no clog. The fluid is full and isn't burnt and is a nice red color. It shifts into every gear and od works as it should. When I punch the pedal it downshifts properly also. The truck is a 1990 with 57k original miles and is 4.0 with a4ld 4x4. As a guy that works on his own vehicles the noise worries me. But it doesn't seem to effect the drivability. I've posted to other ranger forums and got absolutely no response. Hopefully someone here can give me a clue or has had this issue
