Not sure of your question I guess
Ford used the C3 as the base model to build the A4LD, these were for smaller 4cyl and V6 engine vehicles
The C4 and C5 were for larger engines/vehicles, V6 and V8 full size cars and trucks, and these were the base model for the AOD automatic
Pretty much all the the earlier automatics had external band adjustments, just part of servicing them as the friction material worn down
Newer automatics often have "lifetime" bands with no adjustment, which are replaced when trans is rebuilt, hopefully after 250-300k miles at least, lol
