I have a 91 Ford Ranger and the 4x4 isnt lighting up(its the button not actual shifter) im gonna try and hit on the shift motor while my friend hits the button to see if its seized or not and im gonna lift it up and see if the light just isnt lighting up but its actually engaging, any other ideas i could try on it? Its got auto locking hubs

Welcome to the forum

Yes, tapping on the shift motor can free up the motor's brushes if the motor hasn't been used for awhile

Best practice with electric shift systems is to shift from 2WD to 4low and then back to 2WD once a month, just sitting in the driveway, this keeps the brushes clean and the gears lubed.

Shift motor info here: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...-motor.123542/

In 1991 your 4WD system has 3 parts
Shift motor
Shift Module
Dash switch

Switch in the dash rarely has any problem, unless physically damaged

So the shift motor and module are what to check, and the FUSES for the system
