1998 Auto trans issues

Ok so my 4r44e is on its way out, I have been told by every junk yard around here that the 98s are specific and I cant use a 99 or 00 in my truck. They want an arm and a leg for 98 transmissions for some reason. Is there any truth to this or can I just tell them they are wrong and get a 99-00 transmission?

Ok talked to the ford dealership today. they said whoever made up this 98 specific thing is on crack. Its 97-00 that work. Even though I answered my own thread hope this helps someone down the line

I'm not sure what motor you have but my 98 with the 3.0 only another 98 3.0 trans is listed in any of the interchange books. I'm in the posses of swapping mine now.
