1999 4.0 engine swap

I'll be dropping a used same year and model in my 1999 xlt I have maybe a simple question just looking for some insight. Should I leave the torque converter on the flywheel on install or on the tranny (automatic) and try to line the flywheel up? Please help and thank you

You MUST seat the torque converter inside the bell housing FIRST, or you WILL break the PUMP inside the transmission

Slide torque converter onto input shaft and push it in, now turn it and push, it will slide in 2 or 3 more times as it lines up the shaft and pump splines inside
Torque converter should be completely inside the bellhousing when its in all the way

I ruined my first automatic install by not doing this, new rebuild to, had to do full tear down to replace the pump, idiot, lol, so just paying it forward

Yes, when you remove the automatic or pull the engine the torque converter doesn't have to be unbolted first, because its already aligned and you are pulling it apart
Putting it back together is another story
