2.3L turbo vs 4.0?

I posted earlier about swapping out my 2.9 for a 4.0. What does anyone have to say about the 2.3L turbo set up? I see that you can have a lot of power with great reliability of the 4 banger. Just looking for pro's vs con's. It would go into a 1986 4X4. Thanks all.

this is going to be a hunting truck. no towing. in the off season run around town once in awhile. needs to get me to and from the mountains and anywhere I could think about going, where there is a road. It has 33 inch tires and a 6 inch lift already. I'm thinking about putting a dana 33 under it. was just wonder if anyone has done this engine setup and what they thought. Also trying to lean on others experience.

thats one hell of a setup for a 4 banger!! Nice. Hmmm. well if you just mean driving out in the woods and stuff, it sounds like the 2.3 turbo will work. but if your going to be climbing hills and rocks, any steep grade to get to your hunting area, then the 4.0 would be better.

The 4.0 would be a lot of working due to wiring. The 2.3t wouldn't be that bad to swap in. But i've never seen anyone use it for what you're doing. turbos like to spool up and don't give the best low end power which is what you probably want wheeling and stuff. But you can definitely build the engine to give lower end power with turbo, cam, and gears picked out right.
